Little help with new to me Ranger

For the speedometer as I know '94 should still have a speedometer cable, the sensor on the end is just for cruise control or ABS

Going to spring over with a junkyard axle should be simple enough, you'll likely have to flip the center bolt but that should be about it... if you got a Ranger 8.8 which are likely more common with a limited slip if that's what you want your 7.5 brake parts will bolt up, even the backing plates...
It has a two wire harness running to a sensor on the c4 trans. I replaced the sensor with a new one for a c4 and it still isn't working. Sounds like the previous owner tried but it didn't work. Have to do some digging.

so your trans is a newer trans that does not have a speedometer cable coming out of the housing - digital signal only?

I think the best way to solve that an keep your stock dash is to get a dakota digital unit that translates the digital back into a mechanical.... don't know the part number but a quick search for "dakota digital" + " speedometer" should get it in a few hits.

the speedo cable or electric is way back at the tail.

There's a cable that plugs into the sensor, it's probably tucked up somewhere, it's too dark to dive under my '90 right now to get an idea where to look...

A mountaineer axle will be fine, same as an explorer shy of some trim stuff on the body and interior... since you're lowered going to the explorer brake line setup should be fine, another thing to do is grab two passenger side soft lines at the junkyard and cut and crimp nuts on the middle of the hard line so you can use the stock ranger center drop hose...

Your driveline might be good but might be long, on some lower applications I've heard of them bottoming out but yours is probably already modified to fit with the C4...

I don't see a cable anywhere, just the wired harness that plugs into the sensor.

Thank you gentlemen, you’ve armed me with knowledge and confidence. Now just have to find some help for the junkyard work.

Well low and behold, I found the cable! It was late so haven't installed it yet, will get to it this morning and see if it works.

Got the cable connected and it works! Jumps around some but that's probably because the cable has some damage from resting on the exhaust, have repaired multiple wires because of the same thing. I seem to find some kind of hack job every day but being retired it keeps me busy.

Rear end is installed and truck is back on the road but have a couple of suspension questions. I used the Mountaineer leaf springs with the helper removed leaving 3 leaves. Rides a little bouncy and I want to replace the shocks, they look like the cheapest ones the original owner could find and not sure if the length is correct. I have 17-1/2" to middle of shock eyes with truck on the ground at full weight. My first question is what length shock should I be looking for? I would like to establish compressed and extended lengths from the 17-1/2" static but not sure of the correct travel. Also I'm sure the bump stops are probably not correct either, so second question is what length should I have between bump stop and axle? Appreciate the help, Thank Rick

Bump stop space is currently 2-1/2". I'm thinking extended 20.5 and compressed 14.5 gives 3" each way, sound right?

The stock shock for the truck is:

MONROE 32237 Specifications
Extended Length (in.)22.875
Upper Mounting DescriptionLoop Bushing Mount - 5/8" Bushing ID X 1.5/16" Bushing OAL
Lower Mounting DescriptionLoop Bushing & Sleeve Mount - 12MM Sleeve ID X 1.1/2" Sleeve OAL
Compressed Length (in.)13.875
Travel Length (in.)9.000

Sounds like that would work for you...

I did see that when searching Rock Auto. What surprises me is I’m axle over spring and stock is axle under. Regardless it seems like they will work based on the measurements I took. Tomorrow I’m going to take one of the existing shocks off and measure compressed and extended lengths to see if they’re in the ballpark. I installed some 4 shims I had on hand to roll the diff down but it’s still 5 degrees up and the driveshaft is dead level so I have some 8 degree shims coming. I’d like to be about 2 degrees negative. Also had to have the DS shortened. Its been an adventure.Thank you for taking the time to help.
