I found a little black box, with a row of metal spikes coming out of it under my dash, it looks like something a previous owner spliced in and i have no clue what it is. The electrical is hell in my truck, some wires don't even go to anything.
On the side of it, it says "marksman".
I Googled it, because usually that works, but couldn't find anything.
Its about and inch thick, light weight, and probably 3 inches by 4 in size.

Any ideas on what it is? :icon_confused:

Sounds like you found a disconnected car alarm (the "row of metal spikes" would be where the main harness used to plug in). Bet it's a Carbine brand, by Magnadyne. See if it has a wiring diagram or FCC number on it, and try googling "Magnadyne Carbine Marksman" to score a picture to compare to what you've got.

Yep, that looks bout the same.
Just a wee bit different, but its close enough that i know what it is now haha.
THANK YOU!
It really was driving me nutts.
New question for anyone that reads this.
What do you do with threads that you start, that theres no longer a point in it existing?

Glad to help!

You don't need to do anything about this thread. Threads with all of the postings are simply left in place. This creates a wonderful data base here at TRS, that helps others in the future.

Oh, thats interesting.
But doesn't that make a lot of copies of the same thread because of people who are to lazy to look back?

Yep, there's always a lot of the same problems and same situations that keep popping up; and yes there's some people too lazy (or even just new, actually) that don't understand the "Search" function. But on the other hand there's also a bunch of folks who will research things by searching through the old threads.

Your situation was kind of unique, though, as you had the "Marksman" name and Google didn't hit on it in the early pages. There's probably a huge number of vehicles out there, with disconnected alarms because something went wrong with them.

BTW, it shouldn't be that tough of a job to pull out the old alarm wires, and clean up the mess. As I understand it, you don't have electrical problems, just a defuct alarm box and a crappy installation.

I think i might just leave it, im not all to experienced with electrical work.
I might end up messing it up worse, haha.
