When I bought my '87 it had a fiberglass topper on the back, with a dome light powered by batteries. Now the dome light no longer functions.

Anyone got some real-world experience to the best way to illuminate the inside of the topper?

I would like to run a hot from the battery along the frame and have it come into the bed, where the topper seals at.

Should I install a new light where the old one was(just above the rear opening) and would it be nicer if I had a toggle switch and had two interior lamps installed, one toward the front and one toward the back(to help eliminate shadows) controlled by a toggle switch.

Any suggestions for a good disconect(if I ever want to remove the topper) and any suggestions on the type of lamps I need to use, mainly I will be hauling cargo in the truck bed, but I also may sleep back there when camping.

I am looking at these fixtures: http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=4559 with the 10W Krypton bulbs.
How would you do this?

You can run power to the topper and fuse it at the battery , then have a 2 prong plug and disconnect it when you want to take the topper off if ever. Run the power wire up where the bed post holes are. The should be a 1 inch hole where you could run the power wire through. Make yourself a plate to to put the switches onto the topper. Those lights you showed should work just fine but you can find better ones for cheaper. Look into JC Whitney for some lights as they have 12 volt florecent lights that may do you better.

I got some stick on lights that take AA's.

For $6, and if batteries don't fix it pitch it and get another. They have LED's so the last darn near forever.

Yes, but they really don't put out enough light, I'll check J.C. Whitney catalog.

I need it bright enough I can read a book... I hate dim lighting.

Explorin94 any recomendations on what "two prong plug" I should use?

Obviosly I need a male/female plug, but can I get the water proof kind(that has a rubber gasket, like the connectors on engine sensors) I really would like a good install so the wiring will last.

Any advice on a good waterproof connector?

When I bought my first one theey ran the wire down the inside, loosened the driverside tailight and wired it into that circuit it worked great, and the Leer I found is getting wired ths ame way. Try Ebay for the light maybe. Good luck.
