Learn me about tritons

That actually looks like a really clean truck.

2v 4.6 is kinda poochy but gtg reliability wise. Think of it as the 3.0 Ranger of the F-150 world. With enough RPM you can move mountains.

I would not touch a 3v 5.4 with a 10' pole unless someone gave me one and then I would be scrapping it.

Ive never drove a 4.6 but like any small motor, put lower gears in the butt and it will help, likewise 3.08’s with a 351 makes having a V8 almost pointless. I have driven a 5.4 3V. It was a 3/4 ton reg cab longbed, 3.73’s and was impressive. We did do the spark plugs (it was dads truck) and 6 of the 8 broke, Dad anticipated the issue and we had the extraction tool kit on hand. Was still a pain. That truck is still around but its a rust bucket. A ‘05 XL, must of been a fleet vehicle for a landscape company, had a plow on it , no extras, plain steel rims.
Im thinking about a bigger truck myself, It seems too good to be true, a 96 1/2 ton shortbed reg cab, 4x4, 351 auto, black. $1,000. It’s tempting, Ive not had a V8 in years. It looks good (from the pictures) and only has 120K (supposedly)

Yeah I'm looking at this guy's 94 with a 300 in it I just asked 3800$ he said sure so I'll go have a look Saturday. Bring my cousin. It looks like it's got brand new tires long bed 4x4 I think his forgien or something his English is bad lol well texting at least lol. But who cares as lo.g as he took care of the truck

Its hard to beat a 300, Ive never drove a efi version but have put many miles on a carbed point ignition creeper 1st 4speed 3/4 ton. Just kept going, pulling and wasnt too bad on fuel either.

Do you guys think that 3800$ for that old ford is to much? Looks like he did a lot of work on it. I'm just alittle frowny dude took my first offer right away lol. Should have offered. 3500 dangit!

Depends how rust free it is underneath. If there's not a bunch of holes in the frame and flintstone floorboards i think 3,800 sounds fair. :dunno:

Yeah I'd say so. As the price of everything seems to continue upward that don't seem tea bag for a pickup

I love my 300, it’s not at all fast, but it will drag anything at about the same speed it moves empty. Mine was a stick (M5OD, IIRC) and had 3.08 gears. I ran it like that for awhile then changed to something like 3.45 or 3.55 gears, forget which, the autos came with the deeper gears typically so it was a junkyard thing. Changed the transmission to a ZF-5. Put 31x10.50-15s on it. Built up the springs. Lots of people mistake it for an F-250 or 350 now. It’s definitely a beast for pulling/hauling which is what I built it for. I’d gladly take another one over a triton. Haven’t found anything to hook it to yet that it wouldn’t pull. Including a couple 30-40’ tall trees, roots and all.

The old carbed 300's were insanely choked. You could literally double the HP just by putting better manifolds on them. I don't know if they finally let them breathe properly when they got EFI. In any case they are reliable as hell, make great torque, and can make decent power. They were widely used as industrial engines in all manner of things. The tugs that pull around the massive military cargo aircraft at McGuire all had ford 300 engines in them.

The EFI engines flow really well, from what I've read there wasn't much room for improvement.

Had one for years, drove the same completely empty or loaded. Best engine ever to grace a pickup truck.

I'm excited now lol. I hope dude doesn't flake on me or anything weird. I been screwed on the last 3 trucks I tried to get.
