My transfer case seems to be leaking from the seal where the two halves join together. There is a noticable amount of fluid on the case. It does not seem to be leaking enough to spot up the driveway though. How hard(how much time) would it be to drop the case and put a new seal in it and bolt it back up? Or should I just buy some fluid and just refill it once a month or so? Its a 99 ranger with the electronic transfer case.

It doesn't take too long to drop the t-case and put a new gasket in. You'll want to get a tranny jack - that SOB is heavy. Mine had a little leak at one spot (about 1 drop a day when I drive it - its not my DD). I went down to Schucks and got some RTV sealer (I think that's what it's called) and sealed that sucker up. No drops now. That might be a way to go if you don't have a severe leak.

Went to fill it up with fluid today just incase is was getting low. Its been over a year, probably almost 2 since I noticed the leak, and it took maybe an ounce or two of fluid to top it back up. I think I will just let it go as it is for now.

Yeah I just went and checked the fluid in my t-case. The truck was parked at a slight angle. When I pulled the fill plug, fluid started coming out...I think it's full :P

It might not be leaking. Over 2 year, small spills while filling engine oil, power steering fluid etc. tend to pile up. And alot of oil spills will drip right down onto the tranny and sometimes the transfer case. If you only added 2 ounces but had fluid all over the case, I would guess that you dont necessarily have a leak.
