Kyle M's Ranger Rebuild

damn... mines been out for longer then that with the pinion seal gone, rad fins plugged with mud. and the belt missing lol... ive really been slacking

Yeah it could very well just be the perspective, because the math doesn't add up to how mine looks like yours in those pics:icon_confused:

a full width half ton ford is only about 3" wider on each side. playing with backspacing can get things pretty close.

Quick being a slacker....geeze

Welp, went ahead and put on the sliders last night, finished them up today after work. I guess I am happy with them, they are really sturdy so that is a plus, just not sure if I love the look or not. If I do put on an exo these will be a great foundation!

Anyway, here they are

time for some action shots, enough posing, lets go wheeling!

i like them. and once you exo it its not going to look like they stick out as far. an as for my slacking it has come to an end. lol just gotta hope my water pump isnt moving because of ice and not it seized... ill find out tommorow supposed to be +3

So Kyle, whats your wheelbase now??
SVT

HAHA, just the cheapest ones I can find!

SVT,
I measured it out to be 117 or so now. I might push the rear axle forward to shorten it back up, but I wanna wheel it first to see if I even notice the extra 2"

I was at 118" with the last ranger truggy I built. I liked it alot. Not sure on the 103.5ish for the EB.

I was just in a convo with my buddy about wheelbase. For the trails around here, I think 100-120 is good. any less and you're getting into Wrangler territory, unstable on climbs, etc. Any longer and you're doin the Austin Powers around every turn in the woods.

103.5 may be a little on the short side, but it should be safe, and should be fun as it'll be a little more lively. 117 should be mucho stable and still very maneuverable.

Yup... I pushed my front axle ahead 3" and uhm.... 128" wheelbase is gonna bring the suck, might have to do something about that.

Kyle, truck's lookin awesome!

My buddy was running his at about 129 and he manuvered it around, but he had a hard time not messing up his truck. I love the shorter wheel base, such a huge difference in wheeling quality!

Thank you!

I'm gonna order up some bead locks, help me choose, should I go bling or standard?

I like these but am worried they will be a pain when i wanna air up

here are the other choices

let me know what you think

Bigger rings hold more mud/snow so they're harder to clean out, and can make for a rougher ride on the street but they help resist coning and hold up better when they get mashed into rocks etc.

50/50...

i gotta say, the Spider locks or the Spoke Locks are my favorites. But then again, I like just the plain bead lock rings. I am going with Raceline Monsters.

I don't like the huge rock rings. Most of the competition buggies at KOH were not even using them. I figure if they don't need them, neither do i

Since you're racing in KOH right? :thefinger:

I'm a fan of the more conservative rings too. BUT, those red ones look pretty sharp. I'd probably keep it simple though. Less weight, holds less mud, etc.
