Kyle M's Ranger Rebuild

My priority would be keeping my truck upright and not to mention that Kyle is an inch away from fillwidth anyways right now I would think it is in his best intrest to go up and all the way fillwidth that way if he goes out of town wheeling and snapas a shaft he can go to any pick and pull and get a replacement without having to get it shortened. Not trying to be an ass and pick on you but for others who are new to sas' swaps I wouldn't want them Being pushed in the wrong direction because of one persons opinion one way or the other. Both fw and narrowed axles have thier place but considering I wheel with fusizes that are obviously on fw axles stock and it isn't hinderance anyway so I don't see the problem with fw

Oh Cmon you guys... you turned the point I was trying to make into something it wasnt meant to be...Your all spending too much time over at pirate :thefinger:

Obviously FW is more stable, but at the same time, what are your priorities??

If you like hitting the trails I like hitting, you aint gonna do it with FW axles... now if your into Crawling and thats it... of course wider is better... however, if you want the most bang for your buck, using your multipurpose compact rig, than IMO, FW aint worth it....

And the Lazy comment came from the fact that FW swaps are gaining popularity on this site, mainly because you can "git-r-done" by swapping them directly over from a 70's fullsize without much modification, and, again, IMO (yes, just my opinion) a lot of the FW swaps look like ass on RBV's, and limit the truck more than help.

With that being said... Awesome build FW or not Kyle... Continue on :headbang:

narrowing axles on a wheeler seems ignorant to me these days..:dunno:

for sure sometimes fullwidth adds difficulty trail riding. in my experience its more often a plus. you still have a narrow body and for most the fw axles actually help keep the body out of the wall on off camber or crevice running.

limit the truck more then a plus?? i think that is the very point of ctor was making. simply doesn't limit things more then it helps..

but i tend to agree my truck looks stupid. the benefits of the fullwidth makes it easy to live with.

I have put my fullwidth ranger bodied rigs anywhere you can put a jeep/ranger on any trail. Difference is body panels or build some sliders.

It this good or bad??? Not quite sure where you are going with all of this.... LOL

I will have a 1 ton rig one day, till then I will run 36" tires and chromo shafts:icon_thumby:

its good.

i never seen the point of ditching a d35 for a 44. but its good exercise and fun to change shit around and see what you learn.

with a hp 44 a guy can run the 60 outers and 35 spline carrier...

theres some radical knuckle and c combinations that are very light with various bearing setups...of course such things are expensive, but when building axles its worth considering ways to keep out of the incremental 4500 wheelin weight to 7500 wheelin weight.

a dana 60 has alot of downsides. so i dont consider it some sort of holy grail or something..

Well if you werent halfway across the country, id invite you out and Ill show you a trail you aint getting through FW... I had a hard time getting through with my B2 stock on 30's, and its even worse now...

Regardless... this is cluttering up a good thread... so Im done with this conversation now.

common guys why cant we be friends why cant we be friends! fw axles dont need to be shortened.. the wheels you gotta use need a better back spacing... something like 7" and shorter full float hubs... i havnt figure that out yet but Hummer H1 Beadlocks are perfect for this 7" backspacing and my tires will be in my fenders. soo the fw dosnt matter any more right??? its about 100% easyer to replace and you can still fit in those tight spots! FW Dana60 FTW!

Something else, I cut my sliders off the truck, time for some new ones, ones that hold air......

I'm not the only one that caught that right? Kyle's cooking something up:stirthepot:

Fabbing has begun...I will post pictures when I get further along:icon_thumby:

any word on the gear's ?

Nope, just emailed Jeff's Bronco Graveyard again last night. Doesn't matter now anyway, I am gonna do the HP, should be able to get it done for not a lot of $$.

so what happens if they warenty them? if you cant use them in the hp you just going to sell them or do you think they'll just give you the $ back

I imagine the smart thing would be to set them up in the LP 44 and sell the axle whole.

I am still gonna 'build' part of it, but for what I am paying ($250) I can't pass it up. I will be getting a 1350 doubler and a 1354m rear case and the linages. I will build (or try to) a one piece shaft for it.

Those would last one trip out.....really. I think I just have to learn to drive better:icon_surprised: the snow on the trails is what go me this time. O-well, fixed now.

Just take the tails out on the trails problem solved lol
