Kyle M's Ranger Rebuild

yea it deffinantly looks like the back needs to be softened up, looks damn good man proops on the build....

LETS HIT THE TRAILS!

Thanks! Don't know, maybe I will take out my overload, the rear is high anyway...that might help

Damn Kyle! Maybe I can follow you around next time!

I'd take the truck to a shop and get it on an alignment rack. That'll tell you where you're sitting now. Who knows, maybe it just needs trued up and it'll drive straight as an arrow.

I think I will dick around with it a bit and if I can't get it, that may be the case. The way it is set up it should drive the same, if not better than my old set up.

As far as you following me....lets just get out there and figure it out then:icon_thumby:

How soon are you going high-steer? just thinking to myself....but hydro-assist will keep those wheels pointed straight :D

Looks great... Come over and do mine now!

Thanks! Just mail me your truck, i will do it and mail it back, deal?

I just have to find a passenger side flat top that I can afford.....or when I get some money to buy a good set up. I am not in a big hurry.

I wouldn't mind hydro assist, but I don't think I really need it and I don't see how that would help me with bump steer unless I went full hydro.....that would be cool....

Haha... alright it will be in th mail tonight...

Well, got the shocks back out....time to start tuning them. I think I may have figured out the driveability issues. It always seemed like my driver side was 'softer' than the passenger side, but rode at the same height. So I went and picked up a quart of shock oil, a measuring cup in cc's and a syringe to inject oil. So anyway I yanked off the shocks, drained the nitro out then the oil into the measuring cup and my thoughts were proven. The driver side had 325cc of oil and the passenger side had 370cc (like it is supposed to have from the factory) so less oil means less dampening. So I fully compressed the shock, and filled it with oil and that came out to 425cc's, so that is the max it will hold until you start hydro locking. SO I drained it back out and put 400cc in each so hopefully that will help it have a firmer ride, if not I will have to change the valving.

I also made a little rig to help regulate the nitro I am putting in so I can be accurate with that also.

These things are going to be a pain to get just right, but after all is said and done, I think I am going to love em.

Alright, filled the shocks up to 400 psi with the 400cc of oil. The truck had about 10" of shock shaft showing, I want it about 6. So I started letting nitro out and got it down to about 340 psi and it sits pretty good with about 6" of shaft showing. Went for a drive and the wandering is better, but still not good enough. It steers too easy and with the little bit of body roll, it gets amplified. My buddy has a steering stablizer I am going to try. If that doesn't work I am going to get some caster camber correction bushings, 1.5*, and add more caster to tighten up the steering.

A stabilizer should definitely help Kyle. I'm considering putting one on my truck and I'm only running 32's on the TTB35.

Toss the stabilizer on there if you wish, but I always saw them as band-aid type fixes. I never had one on my TTB or my D44. I'd be looking at adding some caster. My truck has ~6.5* of caster, and has fairly loose steering. I could see how anything less could create some issues.

I assume you've got the 7* bushings in the radius arms? If not, I'd throw those in there. They're like 30 bucks.

Yup, you are right, the dampener is a band aid, a free one. I might just go ahead and get the 1.5* spacers to get a little more caster. I should be somewhere around 5* to 6* right now since I am lower lift than I set it up for maybe more. I do have the 7* bushings now also.

But just remember, my front end is way soft and I have a lot of body roll, so maybe I need to look further into a sway bar. My factory one wont fit without modification

Yep. Front lift height will effect caster too. If it doesn't take too long, I'd drop the pressure so you've got ~3" of shaft showing and see how it handles. I guess that would stiffen up the shock quite a bit too right? I'm not sure, airshocks are tricky. If it eliminates the issue, there may be a happy medium between ride height and ride quality.

I would definitely get a sway bar with quick connects

I don't know...drove it tonight, it wasn't too bad after adding more shock oil. I think I will just drive it for now before I go spending too much $$. Lowering it is a viable option, then I will just go bigger meats and trim fenders.

Said F it and got the bushing, can't hurt either way. $36 and they will give me 1.5* more. Now I just gotta tear it all apart to put em in.....

i did see this thread, just didn't realize it was the same truck! lol. Are you still having the bump steer?
