Kyle M's Ranger Rebuild

I would love to try one out. I understand what it is does and how it works, but I don't really understand how it works lol.

Word on the doubler and 5 speed. Wish I would have done mine a looooong time ago.

the doubler is just like the low gear in the 4x4 transfer box, but as the name applies, you have two transfer boxes, when you shift them both to low gear, well, it's very very slow, and very very torgie(sp).

I hope this helps.

I would like to have one, but turn it around to make it a double over drive.

Yeah I knew that. I understand how, I guess I just want to see one in person and use it.

they are awesome. what do you not actually understand? it gives you double low.. well worth it. i'm just not building my rig that much for now.

would be awesome for you to use larger tires and keep the gear ratio you have.

Why is it your guys opinion that an auto negates the need for a doubler? From what I'm thinking, an auto may be easier to drive, but, they are still higher geared. You might have some extra torque initially from the converter slipping and whatnot, but still, higher gears. An auto with a doubler would not be slipping as much, not have to work as hard, stay cooler, last longer, and result in a more reliable, capable vehicle.

Again, this is my theory, I've never had the chance to run a double in anything (yet).

You pretty much nailed it....

an auto will not run cooler with a doubler, it actually runs hotter because it isn't flowing as much fluid so it stays in the convertor and trans longer as well as the engine itself typically runs a bit warmer as well for the same reason of not flowing coolant as quick.. Biggest benefit IMO to the doubler for sticks is the ability to not have to slip the clutch.

I went from a 4.0L 5spd doubler 5.38's and 4d's to 351 roller, c6, 205, 5.38's and 4d's.

I miss the doubler in the rocks vs my current set-up but honestly don't see the need for a doubler.

To me, less parts to break the better. I only wanted the doubler because to crawl with a manual is murder on a clutch with out the doubler. I still want one, but you don't 'need' it with an auto.

Yeah I know. I seen some pics of someones earlier that helped me. I was really just trying to understand how to use it. I knew how it worked.

just driving my truck is murder on my clutch. 3.55's 4.0 m5od and 37's. there is NO lowend. i hit 55 in second gear. Definately need to regear but with all that's happening in the next couple week's there is NO way of that happening. I start layoff tomorrow and the kid should be here in the next week or two.

Good Lord. I couldn't stand 35s and 3.73s.

shit, i would be all over it for sure. 3.45s, 33s, 5spd, and 2.9 combo SUCKS. i think i would rather get a doubler before gears.
could it be made using (2) 1350s instead of a 50 and 54? since i already have 2 1350s and know of a machine shop that could do the shaft for me.
kyle, if you, or anyone else dont many saying, around how much would it cost to make one? (without the cost of the tcases of course, since i already have them)
