Kyle M's Ranger Rebuild

Do you even have to preheat it? It is cast steel, not sure if that makes a difference.

I heard that anything cast is a pain to weld to unless it is preheated. I might be wrong though.

:dunno: i will have to do some reading, or take it to my welder I use at work and have them just do it.

Actually a member on here had it last I knew. I traded to a buddy then he traded to somebody on here. Last I knew it wasn't getting used. It was easy to build other then the shaft connecting them.

"Burnside" had it last I knew......

The last 1354 I owned (which is part of that doubler) I bought from a member of RRORC.com bought it and had it shipped to me for around $230 I think. The others I had owned mostly came from the u-pull-it yards.

Did you make your own stub shaft to connect the doubler? I might try my luck doing that...maybe even try and make a one piece unit.

I think I am gonna take another trip to LKQ and see if they have anything...I need to get a new GEM modual for the Explorer

I am gonna hit up the Wayland/Dorr on sunday to get a steering column for the eb, I will look around and see if I see any.

I had a buddy make me a 3 piece shaft....NO WELDS. I'll see if I can dig up some pics.

I took an output from a mitsu trans I think it was, as the splines were very long on the output shaft. Then I took a input to a 1350 and cut the sm. section of the female splined end. Then took the other junk of the main shaft from the tcase and had it bored to accept the female spline piece as a press fit. Then had it drilled and pinned with chrome moly pins. Then the splined male output piece just slid in. I beat it pretty hard and never let me down unlike the welded style homemade shaft.

Burnside is my man edit: no homo :D. Let me know if you're interested in it, I'm willing to bet he'd let it go. He never got it installed.

That is so like I was thinking of making it, but using all new parts, that is so cool, never seen one like that before. I have a wire EDM at my disposal, plus a whole tool room. I am trying to work out a deal with some dude to to get some junk trannys.....we will see.

And yeah, if you can look around for a 1354M I would appreciate it, even if you see some linkages that will bolt up to my m5OD tranny let me know, then I will have to take a trip there sooner. That location is my spot I go to.

That dou bler was original in "evan"s explorer that was built by him and "todd" from this site couple years ago. It might even be the doubler cfrom the photos in the tech library.
