Long story short my little brother is a junkie and a thief. He especially likes stealing prescription drugs and motor vehicles. The other day I was helping my mom with some things at her house while he wasn't there and I left my coat downstairs unattended. He came home at some point and my spare set of keys (they're normally hidden on my truck somewhere in case i lock myself out but i had locked myself out that morning and hadn't put them back in their hiding spot yet) disappeared from my coat pocket. So now he's got a key to the doors, the ignition, and the cap. I went out and bought a club to keep the truck itself from being stolen in the mean time but my stereo is pretty much fair game til i get new door locks.

So, how do I replace the lock cylinders in the doors and the ignition? How difficult is it? Any idea how much this will cost me?

I guess you could take it to a dealership or locksmith might be cheaper who could make different keys & change the pins in the locks to match the keys.

anybody else got something....like going to the salvage yard & buying the locks off a vehicle that has the keys with it.....

the ignition... put your key in turn it foreward then stick a little Pick on the bottom of the shrould.. you should be able to pull the hole lock cylinder out and replace it with another one at the junkyard... the door locks.. on the side of the door theirs a little plate that you pull and the lock pops out.. have to pull the door panel and disconnect the connecting rods.. i just had to change my lock cylinder cuz the "dogs" inside broke.. and would just spin in a circle.

I'd go to Autozone and get new keys and cylinders. The ignition is about 15 bucks for the cylinder with usually 2 keys. The doors are a kit and run about 40 bucks for both sides and usually have 2 keys as well. If you do it this way your brother can't get back in it with your old keys.

Find your brother and: 1. Get your keys. 2. Beat his ass. That's what I'd do.

Number one wouldn't work, it's been done in the past when hes gotten a hold of the keys of other people. The first thing he does is make copies and hide them in numerous locations. The last time he went to rehab I found six keys to our mothers car stashed in six different places. Hell, I probably didn't even find all of them. I'm not taking that chance, im just getting new ones.

Number two goes without saying. Time for a good old fashioned blanket party...

Awesome. That sounds much much easier than I thought it would be. It sounds like I can do all three in less than an hour if i don't run into any issues...

Hello

Goto the junkyard and for $20-$40 bucks you can change all of your locks. I did that to the Stang and 85,88 B2s when I got them.

1+ if you can find one with keys. If you have keyless entry and he has the clicker its all moot unless you re-program your onboard or go after market. Also if thats a chipped key any other key will not talk to your putor and it will not start!

You can take the title of your truck to the local locksmith to get a new key made to get in and use your truck.

Sorry about your bro,but i'd break all his fingers with a hammer.

If its a chipped key you can do VIN code and it will cost over a honey, but what good is that if beaver has the same keys?

it's a 92, i don't see that being the case.

#1 - break his fingers. Then tell him that if he ever touches your truck or keys again you'll break his arm off and beat him to death with it.

#2 - replace your locks. It's easy as long as you still have a set of keys, the older Rangers like the 92 you have is a lot easier to change than the newer ones with the chips in the keys. One thing you will want to watch out for is that sometimes you can get a repeat lock. What I mean by that is I have an 88 Bronco II. At one point I owned an 89 Bronco II and didn't get a key to the door locks with the truck. Now I have a collection of keys to fit Fords and just started going through them all on the off chance that I'd have one to fit. Sure enough, the door key for my 88 fit my 89. I tried the different keys because my dad had told me that the key he had for his 76 F-100 fit his 77 F-150 and his '79 F-150. So if you're going to replace all of the key cylinders, make sure your old key doesn't work the "new" cylinders before installing them.

Dang....If that was my brother I would just pluck out his eyeballs and rip out his tongue and feed him to one of our gators!!!! Who needs a piece of crap like that in the anyone's life??

door locks are easy, i would just get those first then do the ignition later...i mean yea he can bust out a window or somethin and gank your ride...but j's are pretty stupid so when they try the door key and it doesnt work, they will b like shit they changed the locks and move on

I called my dad who is a service manager at a ford dealership. He checked with his parts dept and the door locks are discontinued. The parts stores I called (pepboys, advance, NAPA are in my area) said the same. The ignition cylinder is only $15 at advance but doesn't protect my stereo or tools. Short of a locksmith or the slim chance of a junkyard with good locks that have keys what are my options?

BTW, I have my main set of keys so I can still drive it, its my spare set that was stolen. I got a club to discourage its theft until I get new cylinders installed.
