Just to make sure I'm doing this right: Lifter replacement...

Probably sounds like a stupid question, but...

You install the lifters as-recieved, right... leaving the little clip in place on top that holds the pushrod-contacting part of the lifter into the bigger part...

None of my manuals say anything about removing it, but I do notice that there's almost no travel from where it holds the lifter-top, to 'bottomed out'...
 
Leave the clips alone...surprised me that nobody else would answer your question.
