Just Plain Stupied

Exactly!!.....War Story!!!!!

We were flying the friendly skies of Viet Nam in '71....no.....'72.....shut up-it was '71, Idiot. Any how, something wasn't right. No, I'm not talking about anti-aircraft fire, or AK fire, or heat-seeking missle fire (dandy new invention), or even mortar fire.......it was something.....unexplainable. I told the pilots......
they said "What is it?".
I said "I'm not sure".
They said "Then what good are you?!"
I said "Let me turn the main fuel valve off & you'll find out what good I am!"
(Officers.......you gotta keep em on their toes)
Anyhow.....bout an hour later, something started screaming like a cat going into a blender feet first.
Then a loud bang...
Then the hydraulic fluid temperature gage starting climbing like a monkey with a tiger behind him (was gonna say a Vietnamese, but that's another story).
Anyhow, long story a little shorter.......the nut backed off the hydraulic radiator fan s-l-o-w-l-y, fan flew against metal shroud, one of a kind nut flew across helicopter SOMEWHERE, main fluid supply began to overheat (really bad thing to happen), we made it back to base camp.
The U.S. Amy didn't have another Special nut within a thousand miles.....
Had to wait 3 days for a new nut......Helicopter couldn't fly without it!
Thank God (or hiher power or nature or puk or randomness) that we didn't have to land in the jungle.
Moral of story.............if somethin ain't right.......pull over or LAND!!!!:icon_surprised:

EDIT: too much war story at one time...... mind is racing.........gotta go take a pill.......later guys

My Dad works on chopters he builds parts on an C.A.D machine He always says if he screws up, "it ain't like they can just pull over and put up the hood they'll fall out of the sky". Nice story sweet that you made back to base.:icon_thumby:

Tell your dad hello for me!!:headbang:

EDIT; I didn't do anything to the truck today......I 'm troubleshooting a fuel electrical problem (never steam-clean a 20 yr. old engine!)........plugs are sparkin(rebuilt ignition recently).......pump is pumpin(35-40 psi constant).....injectors stop injectin after about 2 minutes of idling(cleaned all connector pins)
Any ideas appreciated (ran great til the steam job......idiot! yea i know )

Gotta make a couple more pieces fit together..............the hood tops (gull wing style hood)

An hour later.........all holes are drilled/bolts are ready to be tightened..............bottom view......gotta coat the unfinished bottom with some b-l-a-c-k bed-liner.........

Both pieces are tightened & the stainless piano hinge down the middle of the hood halves works great......

Waddaya know!!.........the two halves lay on the top pretty good.......
now for fitting them to the grill & installing the grill braces to keep everything straight...........

Actually......I used a big rubber body shop mallet.........
that way, if I was to get mad at myself cause something wouldn't fit right.......
I wouldn't be able to hurt myself too much.......
(when u got brain damage....you always gotta think A-head.......:icon_surprised:)

EDIT: FYI.....True Story per History Channel......."crap"........according to archaeologists......became "Holy" about 10,000 years ago.......ancient Babylonians realized that life began to move in it after a few days if they stored it in abundance in a cool, shady place........so, they built Altars where it ("crap") could be kept safe and worshipped while it created life.....
.........the "Life" just happened to be what we call MAGGOTS!

Hence: the old saying..........."Holy Crap".....or.....("Holy S***")
