Road-trip today.......I had to change one of the corvette governor springs to a stiffer spring..no problem/it took 10 minutes..(there was no more shifting at 2200 rpm...the ranger was shifting thru the gears at 4500 rpm with the new governor!!!!!)
I was breaking the speed limit in 2nd gear!!!!!!
Talk about launching!!!!!!
It went into 4th at 70 mph......Whoaaaa.....watch that curve ahead!!!!!!!!
The last time I had a ride like that.....I was test driving a convertible Mustang!!!!
I'm hoping I guessed right & the stiffer spring will cause it to shift at 2500 rpm....I hate to think what it feels like in some of TRS's Rangers with more than 300 hp in their V-8s
UPDATE: under moderate accelleration, the Ranger was shifting 1st thru 3rd(30mph into 2nd/45mph into 3rd) at 3200 rpm.......................4th gear was kicking in at 3500 rpm (55mph) this afternoon.
Since I'm going to wire up the lockout solenoid to engage in 3rd & 4th gear, I want to lower the shift rpm's down to 2500....that way....when 3rd kicks in at 2500rpm, the converter will do a 3rd gear lockup until 4th kicks in.....then converter lock-up in 4th at 2800 rpm which will then drop the engine rpm down to 2000......well---that's the plan----plenty of go at WOT & gas mileage to get where I'm going on roadtrips......
EDIT: Friday nite....didn't hook up O/D in 4th gear...ran the roads all day in the Ranger...got home &.had to rebuild the 10 yr. old starter on the Harley.....Road trip tomorrow also/return on Sunday....maybe I'll drop the xmsn pan Sunday nite........
