Hi! I'm new here.
My Grandpa is giving me a 1990 Bronco II, 2.9 with the A4LD auto.
The trans has been rebuild in the past, but the engine is stock.
Of course it's a 5 digit odometer, but according to my Grandpa it's spun around twice,
putting it at around 266k miles.
Just wondering of you guys know anything I need to look out for?
Maybe some preventative maintenance that would keep it running for the long haul?
I would like to eventually swap it to a M5OD, but that's further down the road, both figuratively and literally.
I'd love to hear what you guys know.

Should've put this in the BII section, much more looks. I'm not familiar with the 2.9, but with any vehicle it's all about maintaining them. If your Grandpa took care of her your in pretty good shape.

Ask for maint records from him and go from there.

I'd do all the fluids, front and rear diffs, tranny, t-case, motor etc. Check levels and quality of them.

I have an 88 Bronco 2, same engine and transmission...just went into the shop for an engine replacement due to burning oil excessively and the horrendous valve train rattling issues.

The key is keeping the oil/filter changed and using good quality oil, otherwise your oil passages become clogged, they're not very large in the first place so neglecting a simple oil change will quickly become the death of those engines...keeping the oil passages open keeps the valve train rattles to a minimum as well as without oil you get quite a bit of clattering.

Check service records and go from there, but I usually do a complete service on any vehicle I get as an indication as to any potential issues it may have...in your case you can ask your grandfather, but any other case I'd be leary of freshly changed fluids covering up a potential problem.
