-went down to my favorite local j/y this weekend to find a few pieces i needed. many old gen 1 rangers an B2s around. notheing spectacular. did snap a couple of pics on some interesting ones.

this mid-80s one had what was left on factory tape job. you can tell its been sitting awhile.....under trees. thought i had it in the shot, but on 1/4 panels says "Ranger Sport" i pulled a couple of pieces here. had nice blue viynl bench seat....

cant really tell from this pic, unless you can zoom closer. fooled me for a second. its a '90 model that some one put the 1st gen front end on, still using the '90 core support. see the bumper..... i was like what???? when i looked inside......

this was someones abandoned project....notice it is sanded and primered on one side, and sanded and rusted on the other. you will see that the core support and under the hood and been jambed with paint, and the engine had been painted as well, maybe rebuilt. hood also set up for hood pins on all four corners. can see rear pins already mounted. hood in back of truck already converted for pin use.... had eddie bauer interior that was apart but great shape. engine, by the way was 2.8, set up for large carb....see the the new shocks!!!!
there were a few others around that was interesting, but its still pretty warm here, and mr. no shoulders are still about, so if it wasnt easy to get to, i didnt go....
picked up a bumper valence. bumper stone shield, 2 headlight trim rings, aftermkt shortie antenna, and painted grille assy, all for a '88. owner said he wanted $35. i opened my bill fold, pulled out a $20( i actually had $21) and said what do you want me to put back???? he grabbed the $20, and said " i don't need the stuff, see you next time." so i loaded up and went home, pretty happy for the day......:3gears:

I love junkyards! That one looks like a good'un.

cool. Every ranger or broncoII in yards around these parts doesn't have much in the way of sheetmetal left, damn salt.

My girlfriend gets all pissed off when I go to the junk yard. I can easily spend three - four hours in one stop.

I have GOT to get more of you guys into the junkyards I shop at....

All the trucks are together in nice neat rows and most are up on supports
And trucks that look like those in the PICs would in any junkyard I frequent
have been "culled from the herd" for express delivery to the crusher.

NOTHING is there for more than 3-4months before it's taken away and
crushed to make room for more recent arrivals.

with the price of scrap "up" there is a steady flow of recent arrivals.

Where are you located? I think I remember you being from PA too, but that was on the old TRS and I can't remember.

Hm...I want to go to more junkyards like that! All the j/y in my area of Houston are full of imports (x10) or fullsizes...quite a few explorers though, but never any with nice leather seats, intact dashes, or 4.10 rear ends from 1995-2001. They are getting more post 2001 models than anything else... :(

But the same...I love j/y hopping...

-we dont have "supermarket" yards down here. these are mostly mom & pop type. "put them where theres space" no ryhme or reason to anything. people down here enjoy the "hunt". that more fun than going to "row 4, section D, lot # 2". you may find a few that tries to organize, but those are usually the larger ones that are on locators & stuff. these are the throwback yards, where if you don't look behind the trees in the ditch, you may miss out on something good.....I.M.O. , i wouldnt have it any other way.......:tease:

I really like the ones that have been passed down through a couple of generations. Like in "Mah Great-Grandpa Dentwell started this here junkyard long 'bout 85 year ago; an why he's buried right over there under that '49 Studebaker, 'cause that wuz always his favorite car".

Yeah, the newer yards that operate like a business are nice and effecient, but there's nothing like some of these old mom & pop yards out in the boonies.

Yup, east central PA, I live halfway beween I-80 and I-78

yeah, where the heck are you shopping?

In the two biggest U-pull-it junkyards there are

Yeah, the mom and pop places where they rarely have anything truely interesting and when they do they can usually tell it is worth something

AND where prices are variable depending on how you are dressed, what you are driving and what mood they are in...

The places I shop have PRINTED price lists and an engine is a fixed price based only on the number of cylinders and it doesn't matter of it's out
of a Ford or a Jaguar...

in either one there are likely to be 50-ish Gen1/Gen2 4x4's
And a similar number of explorers.

Harry's probably has more Explorers than most mom&pop junkyards have trucks (or in some cases cars period)

Ditto for E-Z pull.

And I know another place that last time I was there I counted no less than ELEVEN NP205's

I saw the billboards for Harry's when I was going through there. Man if it weren't a 6 hour drive I would want to go out there...maybe someday.

That's what I thought. I'm in MI for school for now, but I'm from just north of Reading. 61 and 78 (at the Cabela's in Hamburg)
