I found a 97 ranger, 3.0, 5spd, manual 1354, manual hubs, alloys, short bed, regular cab at the junkyard. It was hit not too bad in the left front corner. Everything else is in fairly good condition. Mileage is around 125k IIRC. I forget if it has a L/S. There is no title. IDK if the engine runs.

I have never purchased a junk car before. I know that the truck is worth probably 300 in scrap alone. This guy is the kind that doesn’t let the scale settle when weighing in so he probably paid 200-250 for it. How much should I expect to pay? I am most likely going to part most of the truck out. (I am keeping the M1354 so don’t even ask. :nono:)

I am thinking that a reasonable deal would be for 400-500. What do you guys think?

Pics would be nice, and it would be nice to know if it ran... that would help determine what it would be worth...

If it's in as good of shape as you say, it might almost be worth putting back on the road after fixing it up.

The alloys are worth about $35 each in scrap. Steel is around $8-9 per hundred pounds.

The only vehicle I bought off a junkyard was through one that I trusted. They were honest people and willing to help you out. Plus I lucked out and got a clean title with the one I got, they never transferred the title cuz they were just gonna crush it.

Think you can look around an see if you can find a 4.10 geared D-35 while you're there? lol

so yeah, it had alloys when i last looked at it. mileage is 124K and change,

on the front, one good fender, headlight, corner light. all else is junk.

the radius arm bracket is pushed back on the pass side. the pass side front shaft is tweeked and wont budge. it was hit hard enough on the axle that both leaf spring shackles broke.

what do you guys think?

I'd be asking how much....

Without the alloys, it ain't gonna be worth much. Personally, I'd be thinking of what it might take to rebuild it...

And yes, please look for a diff with the gears for me. If I can't find one soon, I'm gonna have to try to come up with the money to buy new gears (and I'm really trying to hold off doing that cuz if I buy gears, I'm gonna want to regear both axles)... and I'm out of D-28 shafts, lol.

i have no intention of rebuilding it. basically i want the manual case, the tailgate, the floor, (idk how im gonna work that into my supercab), and spare parts. i know i will get a decent chunk of my money back when i scrap the remains of it.

ill write down the list of codes that correspond to 4.10s and bring it with me to the yard.

i have a D28 sitting under my deck if your interested. i have no use for it other than as scrap. no idea what gears it has. brakes are decent. the ball joints are shot. idk how the shaft joints are.

I didn't say you had to rebuild it, just that that's what I'd be thinking, lol.

I appreciate the willingness to take a look for me for a front diff.

I sorta hate the thoughts of adding to my D-28 collection... I have two 3.73 geared ones and two 4.10 geared ones laying around right now... I'm trying to leave both 4.10 geared ones complete in hopes of being able to sell them cuz they're not very useful to me (too big for paperweights, too small for anything else, lol). I got my last set of spare shafts in my choptop, lol. I'll think about taking at least some parts from that d-28 though.

one thing thats true about wreckers is they like to haggle over prices.if you show up in your most raggedy wrenching clothes and act like you barely had the gas money to get there they usually won't charge you a premium for their junk.

So I guess what im seeing is that electronic shift transfer case's was the option or was the manual shift the option?

electronic tcases are so common that i would assume that manual cases were the option.

were manual hubs an option from ford though? the hubs dont say warn on them.

I bought it. He wanted 450 I didnt want to go over 350 but I split it at 400. now i just have to go pick it up and tell my parents that I am bringing a whole junk truck home. I know that my dad wont be too happy about it. That means i got to part it out quick though. PM me if if you need parts. I am going to go put it in my signature now.
