JMcFly’s XLT Simple Restoration and Mods

Brakes all bled again. I did all 4 corners so I have fresh fluid in the system. I suspect air made its way up into the front of the system when I had the axle out. Pedal feels much better now. I did notice the and light is now on.

I will want to rebuild the front brakes at some point. I have mismatched calipers. One newer and one old/original. Discs are crap, bearing caps are probably leaking.

by this time next year I’ll have the entire suspension and brakes fully rebuilt.

Found an original lug wrench, extensions in bag, and document for the jack while at the junkyard dropping off the old rear end. Also got replacement bolts for the seat since I’m missing 2.

Not bad.

Found this randomly and fixed my oil pressure gauge.

Now to figure out why the temp gauge doesn’t move and the blinkers do not illuminate in the cluster.

Do the turn signals work at all or just not turn on the cluster lights? If none of that works, as DUMB as it sounds push the flasher button down like 10 times then push it down a few times while pushing backwards then a few times while pulling back... 99% of the time that gets my turn signals working on my '97... changing the multifunction switch is on the list... usually I can get them working again by just wiggling the button...

I do have turn signals and hazards. I hear the clicking sound and the exterior lights flash. It’s just the cluster arrows don’t light up.

Oil and filter change done yesterday. One of the easiest I’ve done aside from my ‘96 F150 with the 4.9 straight six. That truck I should have kept.

I usually invest in fumoto valves so we’ll see if I get one for next oil change. Since this truck is not my daily I’ll change the oil every 12 months probably. Only not fun part is getting the filter off, that’s an oily mess. I much prefer sideways filters so the oil will drain out.

Starting to plan the rust repair, looks like aside from the obvious headliner removal I might need to take the seats out too. I’ll get a few welding blankets and cover the rest of the interior.

Started taking tint off since it’s failed and purple.
