It’s out!

JMcFly’s XLT Simple Restoration and Mods

It’s back in!!

Got it back in before the rain came down. It’s a lot easier at home than the junkyard. I can’t seem to get the drums off. They spin so the brake pads aren’t stuck. I’m guessing the face is rusted to the axel face. I’ll have to spray and pray it with kroil.

Should have it all back together tomorrow morning since it’s raining the rest of the day. Then I’ll rebuild the rear brakes, change the diff oil, bleed the brakes, and hopefully be able to drive.

With the failure you had, way nicer to have it happen at home than out driving!

Glad you have it back together, the other way they stick on is rust on the alignment part of the end of the axle shaft, if there's rust there or paint holding rust together from the looks of it that would do it.

^ This.

I'd hit that edge with some sandpaper. Can use brake cleaner if you wanna just wipe all the paint off...

After you soak the hub around the center of the axle, hit it hard like the picture shows below in those areas. Hit it around the face of the drum. This will start rocking the drum on the axle and break it loose, without chipping or damaging the drum itself.

I’m going to hit it like it owes me money. If it doesn’t budge I’ll just cut it with an angle grinder and wedge it off since I have new drums.
