I'm looking at a SAS for an 88 ranger. Right now I have the d28/7.5 combo. I found a Jeep comanche in the junkyard that has both axles in excellent condition. I know it has a d35 rear and d30 front. If I want to run 33's, with these axles handle it? Also, if I do an engine swap later on, will they handle the increased power?

Your 7.5 is a stronger axle that that d35 rear. A locked d35 is a time bomb without the super 35 kit. I am NOT a jeep guy BUT I would not think the d35 would be in the rear of a Commanche.

the d30 is good up to 35s usually unless you beat on it. But when you beat on things anything is possible.

I'm pretty sure the Comanche used the same axles as the Cherokee. The Comanche did offer a payload and towing package that included a "heavy duty" rear axle that was a Dana 44. So you will find some Comanches with a D44 but the vast majority will have a D35.

33s are the largest you wanna go with on a dana 30. just throw an 8.8 in the rear.

Comanches had the D35 rear. Except the early year Metric Tonne trucks which had either an AMC 20 or a D44.

Whats wrong with an 8.8 and a d44? thats a good combo, cheepthrillsBII used to beat the snot outta his....

Nothing, the problem is finding a Dana 44 that's the right width.

Early Bronco:
'66-'75 D44, right width, drum brakes
"76-'77 D44, right width, disc brakes, pricey as hell if you can find one at all

IH Scout:
Right width, most have drum brakes, some have discs, either way the bolt pattern is wrong

Currie or whatever axle shop:
Custom built to your specs, pricey as hell

It's actually '71-'75 with drums, '76-'77 disc (EB D44).

Anything in an EB before '71 (stock) is a LP D30.

Agreed, keep your 7.5" rear. D35s may make good front axles, but not rears (why not just go that route anyway? that'll handle 33s + your engine swap fine. The D30 will be marginal at best).

I did the same thing to a 90 ranger dana 30 4:56 long arm with ford 8.8 with custom 4link coilover and im running on 37 BOGGERS the axle handle find.

73 eb dana44 chevy knuckles out 96 honda pastport dana44 in rear that's what i'm going to run both of them 58in

Say what ?

passport d44...like a montero.

better off with a 8.8.

i think a d35 ttb would be better bet as well, the 30 is fine but with a ttb truck a waste of time...with a sla chassis or 2wd tib i wouldnt think twice about a d30....but its better to do a d35 in a ttb truck, its too easy not to do it.

CheepThrillsBII was running alot more than 33's when he broke his D44 and 8.8.
