Anyone know if a set of 4" Jeep CJ7 lift springs will work on a SAS on the front of my '83 single cab Ranger? I'm not sure of the spring rates required for this, or what the springs are rated for. I'll be using a Waggy Dana 44 front axle, and I know the width is off, but I can get around that.

i wouldnt use em, they are pretty narrow and stiff riding, go for some YJ's

Are YJ springs that much heavier? or should I just find a set of 1/2 ton truck springs to use?
This is getting set up as a mud/trails/rock crawl truck (with emphasis on Mud!) so I'm not worried about ride quality too much. I just want to get high enough for a set of 35" Swampers to clear.
I have a set of 63" rears to use if I need to, just have to figure out how high to lift the front.

YJ springs are flexy. I have a set on my 88 with a 4.0 in it. I put an extra leaf in mine when I got it all done for ride height reasons. I have been running them for almost 2 years and haven't had any problems what so ever.

get some rubicon express extreme duty springs they make em from 1.5"-4.5", ride great flex great. u will suddenly change your mind when u drive around on some stiff ass springs for a while, then it will become important to u, esp since momentum is your friend in the mud

Yea, my CJ5 mud runner has SoftRide springs on it, and its a bear to keep in the pit with the body pitching every which way...LOL
I was thinking that stiffer springs would give me a little better control in there. Maybe not.
I guess I have to put this project on hold until I can find a set of springs that I can use (and afford! LOL)
I might just end up getting a Full size Bronco chassis and putting this cab on it. Decisions, decisions...

I used a set or 5 leaf rear Yj springs. I took the smallest leaf out. I then took ranger rear main springs And cut the eyes off and made them a little shorter then the YJ main and put it right under the main leaf. It was soft and flexed well. I should have added bump stops and ended W ing the the springs real bad. ripped it out and did a 3 link with tj coils. It works way better.
