Jeep Build.....

agreed looks much better...planning on doing anything with the bumpers?
I plan on getting a winch bumper made by a local fab shop. I want to do a custom rear bumper as well. The bumpers are down the road a bit.

Plans:
2. Fix the knock in the head
I'm late to the party so forgive me if this has been covered...

Is it an exhaust leak? Every Jeep 4.0 I've ever seen (dozens) has had cracked exhaust manifolds.

EDIT: Dur, finished reading page one and see that it was a broken piston

I'll forgive you this time.

I had the brake rotors cut down.

Got the old gear oil out of the housing.

With the way the brake pads that were on it looked and how clean the gear oil was, either someone took VERY good care of the vehicle it came out of or it had VERY low miles.

I had to test the front fenders. The only place I could figure out to quickly test the fenders was in the front yard. Not completely flexed out, but I think they will be fine.

I got a SYE installed today. It is one of the "hack & tap" style. I went this route because I got a brand new one from Dirt Bound Off-Road in California. I got it for $89 shipped.

It was interesting and a little intimidating cutting the rear output shaft of the transfer case off with an angle grinder, but it went smoothly.

Drilling the hole was a pain in the butt. It took me about an hour or so to get the hole drilled. The hardened shaft doesn't like to be drilled.

It is definately worth the work. There is NO drive line vibrations anymore. I used a front drive shaft off a '94 XJ. It bolted right up without any problems.

I still have to remove the transfer case drop. I need to get 4 new bolts for the transmission mount.

On with pictures.....

I also got my XJ 8.8 swap kit to get the 8.8 installed. It came with new u-bolts, spring perches, spring plates, parking brake cables, axle to drive shaft flange, and drive shaft flange bolts.

I don't have any pictures of the kit. I will get some before I start welding the parts on the axle. Hopefully I will get it all put together this week and installed in a week or 2. I might be going off roading next weekend, so that won't give me time to get the front axle regeared before hand.

sweet stuff man. was wondering about this earlier today when someone mentioned at my work they just got an xj.

i wish they made a sye for the 1350.

It is too easy to swap in a 1354. Since the NP231 and NP241 offered behind the 4.0 Jeeps, there is no other option unless you go with a $2,000 Atlas.

yeah, that's the plan eventually. i can find an auto 1354 around here all day, but a manual is a little hard to come by. i wanna do a doubler down the road, i figure one will turn up sooner or later.

Here is a couple pictures of the 8.8 swap kit I bought from www.knowwhere2jeep.com . It is a good kit. I will probably get the 8.8 swapped in next week.

I also got a set of 4.10 gears and a carrier for the 4.10 gears for the front Dana 30.

I picked up a PowerTrax No-Slip for the 8.8. This should help me go on the trails. Thank goodness the 8.8 I picked up was an open diff and not a limited slip.

I picked up an oil pan skid plate locally yesterday as well. After seeing the dent that was in the oil engine's oil pan, I think I need this for protection. This is a good start to my body and under carriage protection.

I won't need a new u-joint because the flange is designed to work with the 1310 u-joint. If I had an Explorer flange, I would have to have a 1310 x 1330 u-joint for the flange to work on my drive shaft.

Here is the kit on their website.

It is cheaper than the 8.8 swap kit from Ruff Stuff because it comes with spring perches, u-bolts, u-bolt plates, shock mounts, parking brake cables, flange, and flange bolts. The kit from Ruff Stuff just has the spring perches, u-bolts, spring plates, and shock mounts.

The Ruff Stuff kit is $120 + shipping. I paid $215 shipped for the kit from Know Where 2 Jeep.

I will take good pictures of the locker install. It is pretty simple to install a lunch box locker. Hardest part is getting the springs in without shooting them across the garage.

Nice looking skid plate for the pan.....I like it.
You have just went full blown Jeep nuts Jones ...lol!

It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand. ;-P

Everything is bolt on, and it works, and is relatively affordable. I get it, and I don't even own a Jeep. I need to move some place warmer so I can have an excuse to buy another Wrangler and leave the top and doors off year round.
