So last night, parked down in Denver, came back and my headunit, amp, and MP3 player were gone. Be careful guys, make sure you take your faceplates off and hide them and make sure stuff isn't visible, because Ranger's are apparently super easy to break into, and you never think it'll happen to you until it does.

My Explorer was broken into almost a year ago and my subwoofer box was stolen. I built the box myself, installed 2 12" subs in it, mounted 2 amps to the top of the box and put tons of time and effort installing everything. Cost me about $550 and was not covered by insurance. :pissedoff: I still get mad just thinking about it. If I ever find out who did it, I'll make him cut his own balls off with a dull butter knife. For those of you with sub boxes and aftemarket systems, I suggest you call your insurance company and actually find out what is/isn't covered. Most of the time they don't cover amps and subs if your vehicle didn't originally come equipped with them. But if you tell them what you have, they can cover it for an extra dollar or so per month. Also, write down serial numbers and keep receipts!!! Keep them somewhere where you won't loose them, like where you keep the title for your truck. And finally, engrave your initials or make some other distinctive mark somewhere on the stereo itself so you can prove it's yours.

All vehicles are easy to break into. All it takes is breaking the window.

Happens alot like this typically:

Ever since my 1996 Saturn got broken into, 2 years ago, I take my faceplate with me. Where ever I go haha. The Saturn's are plastic, so instead of busting a window, someone hit the door with a hammer, busted a hole in it and had access to the linkage.

Now I have the Ranger, with the easy access back window, So i still carry my faceplate with me. I don't think I'm going to put in the subwoofer, now that i think about it hah.

"they've" got into my ranger 4 times and 3 times into my datsun. sliding glass every time. 2 radios, 2 amps, 1, sub, 1 cell phone, 1 spyderco knife, my entire cd collection, but never went into the glove box. you can get an alarm installed on most rangers/bronco2s for under $250. you must get a motion sensor if you have a rear sliding glass window. i even added actuators on my ranger (keyless entry). my favorite thing is just the flashing blue led i put on the A pillar. leaving spent 12 ga shells in the bed of your truck is a great deterrent until you can put an alarm on it.

Yeah that would do it, but I guess you don’t live in Canada, as it is illegal to even shoot firearms well touching a vehicle or if you get caught with spent brass in your truck they bend you over! :bsflag:

The best deterrent to theft is to keep it low key. If your truck is flashy they know you have something worth stealing 9 out of 10 times. Just don't crank the subs near where you park and resist the desire to make your truck grab as much attention as possible.

Low key is always the best approach. My truck spends three days a week in a college parking lot, and in twelve years I've never had a problem. My Ranger looks no different than any other vehicle in the parking lot.

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today signed into law Senate Bill 378, extending Texans’ rights to use deadly force for means of self-defense, without retreat, in their home, vehicle or workplace. The law takes effect Sept. 1, 2007.

I would not mind living in the USA, don't ask about the hoops we have to jump through just to own a handgun up here never mind that fact that when you get your permit to buy and own guns you can go buy a nice big 50 Cal windowmaker, but no handguns because ''handguns kill babies...''

Low key is a good approach....but it isn't the BEST approach. I wasn't blasting my subs the day they got stolen. In fact, I didn't even have them hooked up for at least a month! And I live in a somewhat upper-middle class yuppie town with VERY little crime. The kind of town where you don't need to lock your doors. If you don't want your stuff to get stolen, you need to make it hidden so thieves can't even see it when peeking in the windows and bolt everything securely down. A good security system is always a good idea. Yes, it's true that a if a theif wants it bad enough, he will always find a way. The point is to try and make it as much of a pain in the ass to steal as possible so that he'll hopefully give up. And like I said before, ALWAYS get everything insured. Because no matter how many precautions you take, no matter where you live/park your truck, it CAN happen to you.

That sucks about people's stuff getting jacked. I've been lucky enough to only have some cd's jacked. I left the window cracked one night at an apartment complex came out the next morning and went to grab the cd book and I couldn't find it.

Lately, I've been seeing a lot of vechiles with broken windows around my part of town. I'm thinking about getting an alarm when I get the extra money but I know that's not the be all end all of protection. I remember an old apartment complex I lived in as a kid people were stealing spare tires off of trucks. It's a shame what some people will do.

If I ever move my Ranger up to the big city I might be tempted to try to take my orginal AM/FM radio apart and make it into a dummy faceplate for my CD player, it has a detachable face.

After all who would want to steal a stock 1985 AM/FM stereo? (without even a cassette player)

well guys it happens since 03 ive had my car broken into twice

ive had 2 decks stolen
an ipod
two high end subs
two amps
had all of the lock cylinders replaced
over 2k worth of body damage done by theives

no matter what they will get in if they want to

i have tinted windows and an alarm with a two way pager still doesnt change the fact that anyone could take a brick and throw it through my window
