Ok, so I just got a flowmaster Super 44 on my 91 4.0L. It was connected back to the pipe after the cat. The pipe is 2 1/4" mandrel bent. Without a turndown after the muffler, the truck SOUNDS AMAZING both inside and out, but when i put the turndown on, it completely kills the sound! What's going on here?

Well its directing the sound down to the ground where the tone hits the ground and dies off pretty fast, where as when it was just the muffler the tone was just shooting out and hitting everything under the truck and sending vibrations through to you.

If you have the pipe exit out the vehicle via front of the rear tire or behind it or whatever not turned down it will sound great and the cab will be alot quieter.

i have a flowmaster on my ranger and it sounds great with even a 2.3 liter. however, it was originally installed with the existing backpiping that lead out behind the passenger rear tire. when i hacked the whole back pipe off to the point where there was actually a turn UP, it got soooo much louder and crisper.
