So I hate to bug you guys, but I'm now just about out of options looking for these things.

My mechanic's guy stopped looking.

The truck is a 4 cyl, 2.3L XLT and it apparently needs "the short ones" so all the longer ones don't work. Sorry to sound ignorant about it, but I've never had so much trouble finding a part.

Most places say that it's back ordered. A couple online parts places say they have it until I'm actually talking to a person, upon which point they admit it's backordered and they don't have it after all.

I'm going to start calling junkyards again. Since I busted my shoulder up, I can't do much in the way of pulling parts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank all of you for all the help you give everyone too.

Rock auto.com carries the springs you need. Just select the appropriate options (Ford, 1996, 2.3) and they will list the options for you. I got a set of moog coils about two years ago from them for just $100.00

eBay will sell the right springs for you.
When I worked at O'Reilly's, we sold coil springs (had to be ordered from warehouse).

Where in Florida do you live?

I'm between Gainesville and Jacksonville. I just need to be certain it's the right ones. If my mechanic tears it down and they don't fit, I'd be screwed.

I appreciate the help! Thank you!

Wolf Hound, what is your spring code? It will show on the driver's side door.

Quoted from Ranger-Forums:

"According to my 04 manual for the front it goes 2, 3, 5, A, C, D, E, J
Probably stiffest - softest
Then for the rear its 3, C and K
So A3 is going to be stiffer than the DC"

From '92Custom from TRS:
"Codes D and E are soft springs, codes 2, A, C, and J are medium, and codes 3, G, and H are firm...both MOOG and Delco put their part numbers in that order, and it makes sense to me that a higher part number would be a higher rate."

He's right:

"After 15 minutes on hold with AC Delco, I have the following information:

Part Number | Code | Length | Rate | Wraps | Wire Diameter | Design Load
45H0290 | DE | 16.14" | 567 | 18 | 0.77" | 2218 lb
45H0291 | 2ACJ | 15.92" | 567 | 18 | 0.77" | 1941 lb
45H0292 | 3GH | 15.54 | 567 | 18 | 0.77" | 1722 lb

Haven't really interpreted this yet but now I think D and E are the heavy duty springs."

If you decide to buy new from Delco or any other retailer that and x-reference parts:

45H0290 - Code D, E
45H0291 - Code 2, A, C, J
45H0292 - Code 3, G, H

They simplified the numerous (9) spring rates into 3 main rates.

Dunno how well this applies to your setup, pre-97.

Easiest would be to tell us your door sticker code on your truck.

Being a 4 cylinder model, I can only assume that you have one of the softer spring rates.

Thank you all so much for the help.

The last code, labeled DSO / Springs is A B

The whole list of codes along the bottom of the label is:
108 - B - E2 - M - 84 - nothing - A B

(the *nothing* is under TAPE)

I can travel to pick up springs, or pay for shipping even. Just trying to locate the right ones the first time.

I'm sorry it took so long to respond, but I was volunteering at an event.

That's fine. I was hammered at a music festival all weekend, too.

You're welcome.

Updated post coming...

Call these guys. I just picked a city in between what you told me. I might be able to find a closer one. What's your zip code?

All of thee coils are spring rate # A, the softer ones.

But, these guys have your part. Expect to pay anywhere from $20-70 for a pair of used coils. Call them first.

STOCK #: 130308 ; 110397 ; 120493
Howell's Auto Parts USA-FL(Jacksonville) 1-877-781-3232

You could also try these guys, with "A" coil springs:

Stock #: 110097 ; 140086 ;
$20
Specialty Automotive USA-FL(St.-Augustine)
1-877-825-0257

or these guys:

Stock #: 130308
Howell's Auto Parts USA-FL(Jacksonville)
1-877-781-3232

I called the Howell's parts and the guy never asked me for particulars, just said "Oh yeah, we got those." and practically hung up on me.

The Specialty auto parts is a pull-it place and the guy looked up the information more carefully and seems to have confirmed that it's the right ones and will pull them for me in the next couple days.

Thank you guys a massive huge metric ton for the help. Hopefully this means I can get the used coil springs and get all this replaced.

You're welcome. Glad you are on the way to getting things fixed.

I was browsing the Classified section on here, and I just came across this, and remembered this thread as well.

Maybe you and the seller and hook up a deal, too. You get them shipped to your door, too!
