Is this normal?

yeah, the surface of that flywheel is shot, if there is a step from the shiny part to the dirty part that isn't helping the clutch engagement, I had a flywheel wear out once before, it was a cheap chinese replacement...
There is no step up. Thank God!!! I took it in to be resurface.

Isn't that lovely. He said it wasn't bad didn't even take off ten thousands.

That's good news... and you at least have a nice fresh surface to put your new clutch up against.

On my way to AutoZone. Got to get 3 quarts of Merc V ATF, pilot bearing puller, and Loctite. I know this next part is gonna be tough.

Just take your time and don't try to rush it.

I'm going to. After reading some of the threads I see that when everything is lined up correctly shouldn't have to use bolts to force it together or anyting so I'm just going to be patient and keep trying until it lines up.

Exactly...

There is never a situation where you have to use the bell housing bolts to draw the transmission tight to the engine. You find that right spot and it just slides together.

It would be helpful if you had a friend that was willing to lend a hand to get it put in place...
