Is this engine/tranny from a Ranger?

I have a brand new 2003 3.0 Ranger( I think for a Ranger) engine and 2wd auto tranny. They are still sitting on the pallet from Ford. I'm not sure if I want to sell the combo or keep it yet.
If I do keep it what other year rangers would this combo fit in? I may look for a cheap project Ranger to put this in but I am not sure what years would work for the ECU and all.
Here are some pictures. Anyone know if this is from a Ranger? What's up with the plate below the alternator that says Do Not Remove?

Thats not a Ranger Vulcan 3.0 (the only 3.0 from 91-08 IIRC). Vulcan 3.0s were never DOHC engines. If its an 03 motor then its either a Taurus DOHC engine (VIN S) or an Escape engine Duratec (VIN 1).

taurus and escape are both front wheel drive.

that's not a fwd trans.

Didn't even think about that....lol. I started looking up those engines a while ago and they all appear to have plastic intake manifolds.

I know what it is.....its a lincoln LS 3.0 DOHC vin S.

232 hp/220 torque

should be a 5 speed automatic tranny.

From what I've seen in ALLDATA the DO NOT REMOVE is just a plate that goes on the front of the oil pan.

Sounds like a sweet engine for a Ranger, just gotta ditch that auto and put a manual tranny behind it.

Darn, I was hoping it was a Ranger engine. Looks like it may be harder to use as a project engine or sell than I thought. The LS is a rare breed and most Iv'e seen around here are the LS V8.

To make a long story short we had two of these in one of our warehouses at work and they needed them out of the way for a new project. They were originally ordered from Ford by a guy that does not work with us anymore as a potential "project engine" for a concept vehicle but were never used. Since he left no one else knew what they were from so that is why I asked on here. I only gave $125 for it.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Probably could sell for a grand, if you wait for the right buyer. I would actually contact a Lincoln dealer and see if they would buy it, or at least give them your number if they ever need one. Doesn't hurt to ask.

This engine was actually in a few vehicles, but each one seemed to have different attributes such as Variable Valve Time. Most of the other vehicles were FWD so you would have to sell the engine separately.

You didn't get ECU's with them did you? I'd rock that in a Ranger... more power and likely better mileage...

screaming deal.at that it would be well worth hunting down the ecm to make it work.no reason it couldn't be set into a ranger.
