is this a good deal? Aburn locker.

the aburn e-locker isnt a true locker, its just a limited slip that can be "adjusted". they do wear out and they do slip, even when "locked".

everyone ive talked to that has run one of those didnt like it.

well this is what the guy sent me.
> THIS IS CARRIER AND GEARS IF WANTED IT IS A STANDARD LOCKER IT IS STILL IN
> DIFF I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW INSTALLWED IT AND BROKE THE FRONT AXLE SO I
> REMOVED BOTH FRONT AND REAR AND INSTALLED FULL SIZE AXLES

SO my question is it worth the $80 to have at least a ls in the rear of my 2wd. the guy also said he can sell the whole axle, Have not asked if it is still one piece, if so I won't have to worrie about setting up gears.

if this is a purely street driven rig, i would go with a standard ford limited slip. rebuild kits are cheaper and easier to find, and the l/s itself is simpler (due to not having the "locking" mechanism) which translates to more reliability.

if this truck goes off road, get a lunchbox or selectable locker. since its 2wd, you need all the traction you can get off road.

i would skip on the e-locker. its sort of a mutant and leaves you with the same limitations as a limited slip but adds the complication and expense of a true locker...not worth it IMO.

I already have a L/S sitting in a another 7.5 out of my 87 ranger, but i really don't want to set up gears if it not worth my time. and my truck dose a min. amount of off road mostly sand and snow(hunting and skiing) So I just thought it would be nice every now and then. si if he already has it set up in a axle I was just thinking of swapping axels. depending on gearing.

the only problem with that is when (not if) the aburn wears out, rebuilding/replacing it is very expensive.

if your trying to avoid setting up gears, look for a complete l/s axle from another ranger...they're quite common. hit the local junkyards and check craigslist.

its up to you. i just think the aburn is going to be much more expensive in the longrun.

Get a Lockright. Limited slips are okay when new, and okay if you are an expert on taking care of them. I just want both wheels to come to aid of the party when the whistle blows. I don't want philosophy--I want traction.

FYI, the lockrite uses your open carrier, meaning you dont need to set up your gears.

I think that is the plan, I keep looking for the lockrite on CL. I cant afford a $300 right now, yes I know quite being a cheap ass. it doesn't mix with off road.
