Here's the problem I'm having I have a 1997 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0l automatic. The transmission went out and I had it rebuilt by my local AAMCO. That's where the problems start I have now had to take it back 4! Times for different issues.

Instead of having to keep dealing with them I would like to find a good rebuilt trans for my truck does anyone have any suggestions?

The A4LD, 4R55E and 5R55E are all pretty much the same mechanically, the 4R and 5R just have more computer control solenoids than the A4.

And they are all good transmissions.
But shops often do a soft parts rebuild only, clutches, servos and bands.
You always need to put in a new FORD front pump, no 3rd party for that, and the forward one-way clutch, for sure, and overdrive drum usually they get hot and warp.
Also new torque converter, but that's not IN the transmission.

Good read here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/a4ld.shtml

If you get a rebuilt then get a parts list of what was changed before paying

As to the question of "cursed or not"?

As it is a FRENCH BUILT transmission that is often typically bolted to a German engine..

Yeah, it probably is...
