My credo
Work hard and play harder
from manual locks, windows and mirrors to power locks, windows and mirrors? I ask this b/c I am tired of the crank action BS mainly.

Option 1: Find a truck w/ power windows......sell yours and buy theirs.

Option 2: Find a complete parts truck. Rip your dash out. Peel wiring out. Take doors apart. Do same to parts truck. Put parts truck wiring and door parts in yours. Put back together. Good Luck. :icon_thumby:

Most base models w/o power options, don't have the proper wiring connectors, so a new harness is needed.

Aftermarket is always a possibility, but they lack reliability, affordability, and power.

Option 4 keep your truck and buy another one with power locks, windows and mirrors.

As for me I have no problem with taking the 5 seconds to manually lock my truck or roll down the windows. And my mirrors dont move, they are rusted in place but they are adjusted for me anyways.

option 3 get all the accesorys and wire it yourself.

That's a little messy, self torture. You have to tap into the fuse block, and power dis box. Make sure you had the right gauges of wires.....that's if he's mechanically or electrically inclined enough to do so....no offense to the original poster.

Not to mention, by the time you finish hunting for the regulators, motors, door cards, lock modules, wiring harnesses, etc. You'd be spending $200-$300 if you're lucky. If you're unlucky.....they'd make you buy the whole door for more. Buy a parts truck for $500-$800 and the parts he'd sell would more than pay for the stuff, plus he'd have the correct wiring and circuit protection. Not to mention a slew of other extra parts. I'd vote parts truck

i just did the upgrade on my b/i/l dakota quad cab. all he got was the regulators and the switches. it took 150 ft of wire to get em to work. each window works off its own switch, and the master switch powers all 4 windows. and the lock out works.

i dont recommend doing this. its much better to get a donar truck and swap everything over. all in all, i think he payed 350 for everything including the spools of wire. but it took some long nights to finish it. but i love power windows:D man did i need a couple  after that

If you stay tuned I am about to do the same thing to my '01. I'm getting complete doors for $100 a piece. I am going to wire it myself. That was recommend to be the best way to do it by a few members on here who have done this and by a Ford Tech at my local dealership. I found that out after I spent the 3 hours to pull the underdash harness (complete with every connector, not cut ends :) )from a donor truck. Oh well, now I know how to pull my dash lol. Once its done I'll draw up a schematic and post it on here for the 1998+ Ranger owners.

Disclaimer- I'm doing this in colabiration with a memeber on here that has done this to his truck already.

jasongind,
What did the tech's tell you ?
If you use everything out of the new doors you can install in your existing door ?
The question really is, "How many wires are required to be added to make the power options (wdw, mirror, locks) work" ?

Thanks

The cool thing I found in my '88 Ranger was that part of the automatic window circuit was already in the fuse box. But I am not too sure if an '05 would be the same. I used this circuit to power my new dash instead of trying to add in another circuit into it.

But personally having broken power windows in the summer, I will tell you that I will take manual over power any day of the week. But just my opinion.

If you get everything from a donor you can put them into yours. Get the door wiring harness also. Then you just have to wire from the harness to the rest of the vehicle. Apparently if you know anything about electical/wiring its not that hard, just some power, inline fuse, and relay. I on the other hand do not. So I'm waiting on some assistance from some people on here.

A buddy of mine is a tech at a Ford dealership and he said he would help me. I would pull everything from the stuff in the doors to the uncut wire harness and the panels/switches. It may be a pain in the ass but I think it will be worth it in the end.

IF you do that can you record what you hook up to where. Like what color wires from each switch you hook up to power, ground, fuse, relays, etc. That is where I am stuck and I'm sure it will be stickied as sooo many people are looking for that in order to do the same thing.

I will see what I can come up with. Now if I had the time to go to the junkyard and look that would be great. 12 hr shifts and school kind of make it difficult.

I feel you there. I see you have ride a CBR, what year and size? I ride a '07 1kRR with some $$ sumped into it.

I have a 94 600 F2. I have about 2k dropped into. Mainly fairing and exhaust. My little 600 aint no punch. I am pretty sure I could run with the big boys (1k+) at this altitude.
