Hey,
My name is Fuller Smith, I own a 2003 ranger Edge, just happy to be here, but I do have a question - my cabin air only blows through the defrost vent, from what I've seen here it's a vacuum problem, but could it be related to another problem I have, no fluid from the windshield washers?

Thanks,
Tanstaaflman

Hey man, welcome to TRS. You stationed there?

No, I'm AF retired, moved here from Tuscon AZ to be closer to my wife's grandkids. but I loved my military career, love living close to the Hood, hearing the bugle calls, I'm a member at the Post golf course so I'm on post daily.

Welcome!

It sounds like you have a blend door actuator problem or a broken linkage. Can you hear the blend doors moving when you move the selector knob to it's different positions?

That wouldn't be related to your windshield washer fluid issue. That would be a separate problem. That could be a bad pump, a clogged pickup on the pump, or a clogged line. When you push the button, can you hear the pump operate? If not, find the connector for the pump and check to see if you are getting power. The pump will be located at the bottom of the reservoir for the washer fluid.

welcome!!

i enjoy living right off base to because i get to hear everything also. even enjoy the roar of the jets and helicopters flying over all the time.

and the free blue angels show every other year

Hello! Welcome to the forums, and I thank you for your service and sacrifice to our country!

but I do have a question - my cabin air only blows through the defrost vent

In regards to this, yes it is most likely a vacuum problem. All of the blend doors (with the exception of the a/c-heat dial's door) are vacuum controlled. Which is debatable if vacuum control is better than electric... each has its benefits I suppose.

When you switch the knob from "off" to, say, "floor", you should hear a small hiss noise which will quickly fade out. This is the sound of the air inside the vacuum actuator being sucked out, in turn moving the diaphragm and moving the blend door.

I have personally found that one of the easiest ways to figure out if it is a vacuum leak and not a bad actuator is if the hiss keeps going. A while back, my brother knocked off the vacuum hose in the passenger footwell (which connects to the recirculation blend door, that closes when you select "max a/c"). When I selected max a/c, instead of the vacuum hiss rapidly going away, it constantly stayed due to the large vacuum leak. If the hiss goes away when you select a different setting, but nothing changes, I would start thinking bad actuators or stuck blend doors (yes, they do seize sometimes).

If there is anything else I can help with in regards to the climate control issue, let me know, as I consider myself somewhat well versed (I have an ASE in automotive HVAC) and am happy to help!
