"Internal lubricated parts"

Hey all,

I just bought a Mazda B2500 two weeks ago. It started losing coolant (within a week) so I took it back to the dealership and they had me take it to the shop they use for their vehicles. They found combustion gasses in the coolant...great. Turns out it has a leak in the head gasket.

I realize I bought it "as is" but they have a limited warranty for 50% off parts and labor. The wording is "internal lubricated parts."

Do you think a head gasket would be classified under "internal lubricated parts"? Talking to the shop manager, he said it can start (if it isn't already) getting into the combustion chambers and start affecting the pistons and/or piston rings. That would definitely be internal lubricated parts.

What do you all think? Am I hosed?
 
so, it's 50% off of part and labor on internal lubricated parts? i mean, technically, isnt the entire inside of the engine an internally lubricated part? i think so.

if you're asking if they're gonna try to find a way to NOT to fix it for you and tell you to go f*ck a goat, then i would say yes.
 
If they don't fix it tell them that you will drive it for a couple of hours with water in the oil till the engine locks up. Then they can put in a new engine at their cost.
 
time to start rebuilding a 302 to swap in there. dealership warranty aint worth the paper its printed on most of the time. thought of doing a head gasket replacement yourself? shouldnt be too bad on a 2.5, just have the head checked somewhere to make sure you dont have any unknown cracks, not a bad idea to have it surfaced either so its flat and will seal. they will probly say that engine failure was due to a bad gasket and therefore not covered, driving it until its dead will probly just end you up with a dead truck and cost for a tear-down estimate. if you spun a bearing or lost a oil pump, that would be differnt.
 
I thought of doing it myself but I don't have the time with school and work right now. I bought this truck thinking it'd be a nice reliable commuter truck....ha. I was wrong.

I'm gonna go there this afternoon and see what they say. I'll let y'all know.
 
No, a head gasket is not considered an "internal, lubricated part". It does not move and will not fail due to wear from a lack of oil.

Be like Chris man. Pull down your hat and just LeDoux your own head gasket. Not that hard.
 
I went back, they won't do 50% but they'll get the work done for what they would get charged to do the work, which will save a few hundred bucks.

Oh well, gotta get it done. That or risk it running it like it is and do it later.
