howdy out there. i have a 84 ranger 4x4 and the intermittent wipers just quit. they work on high speed and the washers work, but no low speed or intermittent. sometimes i hear a clicking noise sometimes i do not. i replaced the module with used one (do not make it new anymore) but get the same results. i have seen that other people on this site have had this problem and asked but i have not seen an answer to it. anybody ever been there done that?

been there, not done that. Trying to find the answer as well.

hope that it is only raining really hard to use high speed, naw, sry, hope you find the answer

Tried a couple different switches. Same result. getting power out to the wiper motor, but only when the switch is set to high. I think my issue will be the module up behind the fuse panel. All the grounds seemed to be good.

I think this job is going to suck retarded monkey nuts.

My ranger didnt have intermittent stock so i went to the bone yard and got the governor and switch and I plugged right in works great. The motor only has three wires hot, ground and switched. It can only be the switch governor or wires check the connections and that they are pushed all the way in take a small screwdriver needle nose pliers and push each wire all the way in after you put the connectors together you might need to pull the wires out of the connector and crimp them a little to make a good connection.

Make sure the governor has a good ground it is hard to get at so I relocated it from by the fuse panel to the metal heater housing just had to weave it through the main harness

Mine has four wires. Two hot, a neutral(?)(white) and a ground(?)(black). There is something the clicks way up in the dash nether-regions behind the fuse panel. Got my hand up on it and I could feel it click when I moved the column switch between settings. I think it is the intermittent control module?? (Power goes from column switch to module to wiper motor?)
Either way, no power is making it to the motor when the switch is not in high.

I`m sorry your right 4 wires to the motor the red is hot from the ignition the governor or module was on the drivers side by the fuse panel kinna hard to get at that is why i put it on the metal heater duct to get a good ground I think I got it out of a 85 B-II

so what are the odds that the problem is a bad ground verses a bad governor/module?

Is there an actual grounding strap coming off of the module, or does it ground through direct contact with the body of the truck.

The switch is probably good so yea find the governor and it either has a ground wire on the harness or ti grounds to the case I cant remember

If i remember correct it was just mounted with one of those plastic push in clips

It's going to be pain to get to it, but could be worse. At least I won't have to take apart the dash.
