Damn, I'm getting ready to do an entire dash swap when it gets warmer. Since I have to swap clusters anyway, I think I'll have to do this. As someone else said, this never even occurred to me until I read this ENTIRE 9 page thread, but now I'm hooked! I may try a white face, too, just for sh*ts and grins. I'll post pics whenever I can.

SCREW IT! here's mine....

Cluster has 36 5mm 13000mcd LEDs. HVAC has 9 5mm 13000mcd LEDs. Fog, headlamp, and 4x4 switches each have 1 5mm 13000mcd LEDs. Cruise pods each have 2 5mm 13000mcd LED's.

Hot spots are not that bad in real life, pics make it worse than it really is. I have NO PROBLEMS seeing my needles in my Expo cluster.

so i put my lights in the other day and i'm somewhat disappointed with the result. the needles and odo shine bright blue like they should but the light barely comes through the numbers and they're still greenish. it's kind of growing on me to have bright blue needles and dim numbers though. looks kind of cool. but the question is, should i return them and get some that have a wider light diffusion or should i go with the current look? here's a before and after picture...

kind of crappy pictures, but you get the idea

You need to take apart your cluster, pull the needles, pull the 'overlays' off, wetsand the green away, then put it back together, or paint on some glass paint to manipulate the colors through.

Plug in LEDs in your clusters SUCK! Believe me...i tried before I went ahead an went with all component LED's.

Not to sound stupid, or anything, but what do you mean by 'component' LED's?

EDIT-Nevermind. I got off my arse and looked it up. How did you wire them up, out of curiosity?

this is very innovative.

you should consider getting a film from a craft store to put on the back of your new clear openings.... then you just need to super glue around the edges and you're good... and if you ever want to change the color it's real easy.

just an idea.
