so I finally got to the point to get my ranger inspected, I am in NH. so here is everything wrong with it,
:bawling:
horn
e-flashers
(these were due to dead battery, had to jump it to leave)
lh high beam (loose wire)
fog lights ( weren't hooked up)
oil, PS, and coolant leaks (top off every 3 months or so)
front suspension (coils popped out when lifted need to twist them back in)
spare tire carrier crossmember has rust holes on top
rear stabilizer link bushings
drive shaft bushing carrier bearing
and body lift ( the rear has 2 inch leaf lift)
exhaust leaks (lousy job welding, will fill)

so I'm thinking of a small chat with the department of safety tomorrow, I can't find most of it under criteria for an inspection.

any thoughts?

the oil leaks would require pan and valve cover gaskets
coolant is the radiator
ps is the actual box leaking at pitman arm

I just think they went over board since this has all passed in the last 5 years!

that's some pretty intensive inspection.

fog lights? seriously?

sounds like money grabbing BS to me.

what a crock of sh*t. just reading that made me angry, im so glad we dont have inspections up here.

I know NH is real tough on rust. But the fog light thing is the key: Fog lights are an OPTION. I'd not only report him to NH dept. of safety but also the BBB. This guy is a real piece of work.

well the fog lights as I was told if they are on the vehicle they have to work, I added them it wasn't even an option, and the rust is very minimal. oh did I mention it's the same damn shop that inspected it last year but different tech
:annoyed:

If the fog lights are not working why do you have them? Pull them off and that is one problem resolved. Try to fix your leaks to keep your truck running and take better care of it or get another ride. As we all know, If we realize that we have a leak we have to repair it to keep our trucks running and help them last.

The best advice:Go back on a day a different tech is there!!

They failed you for leaks?!?!

NJ wasnt even that bad. But they too had the rule, as far as lights, "If they are there, they have to work."

Now they dont do safety inspections, just emissions.

I can take a vehicle older than 96 with anything in the world wrong with it and get it inspected, as long as all the lights work. And if they don't work, they replace the for me for cost of the bulb. (Unless it's not a blown bulb)

Gotta love new york.

so I called the state and was told that the oil and coolant leaks don't have any thing to do with inspection along with the rear height being different! :yahoo:

call garage back and he called state and was told the same thing :D evidently the new laws have not been put into effect yet or something like that so he is letting those go!

Some of those will fail an inspection. Is this at a state run facility or a private garage? If a private garage they will take the opportunity to see what they can fix and attempt to sell your their services.

i'm glad they just look at lights, wipers, and horn here... lol. i have no leaks and all my lights work but still... that's crazy that all of yalls states do stuff like that. here in missippi i guess they just don't give a dang

The lights thing is bullshyt. As long as the factory supplied light are operational, headlights, taillights breaklights reverse, and tag. Optional lights shouldnt matter as long as the vehicle can be identified as two or 4 wheeled vehicle from a distance. (meaning motorcycle or car

My suggestion: Get out of the communist state you're living in.

A lot of that is stuff that I'd have to reject a car for. Especially the lights. But rust on the spare carrier? Come one.

I did fail a state police car for rust one time, but it was bad. It was all pulled out and jagged and someone walking by could potentially hurt themselves on it. If it hadn't been a statie car I'd have let it slide though.

Our inspection laws are pretty rigorous here, but my inspections are pretty broad stroke. I don't nit-pick. I check lights, brakes, tires, suspension/steering (for play/broken/etc), exhaust leaks, and make sure the outer CV boots aren't torn and throwing grease on the brakes. If all that is good, I let it go. I might try to sell the person other things that I notice need attention (fluid leaks, maintenance items, a battery, etc) but I don't do it by trying to tell them it fails inspection.
