I am looking to understand how to remove the old weatherstripping on a 1987 Ranger XLT. It seem really adhering to the inner section of door and I am afraid if I use full power that I may crack the window. Is it just connected via clips or something more substantial?

Moving this to where it belongs…

What part are you talking about? The window belt trim? The piece that's in the track?

For the belt trim, it's held in with spring clips and take a pretty good pry bar to get it loose.
For the part in the track, mine was so old and hard that I used a big screwdriver and a small hammer to chisel it out. That meant most of of the broken pieces fell down into the door. I spent almost as much time getting all the pieces out as I did changing the parts.

It's easier to see here in the part pictures. Do note that the new belt pieces were specific to each door. The shape was fine but the holes in the door frame are in different places...

Thanks - Yeah I was talking about getting the old parts out that are the following

The best way that I've found to remove old belt trim is to go inside the door, slide a putty knife upward between the door's metal flange and the trim piece at the clips, and then lightly tap it upward with a mallet.

I have been running into that.

I have an XLT with no triangle vent window.

Bought a set from Precision and the trim for each side read differently.
And used the option of no triangle and XLT

I got two different part numbers in the set.

Returned it and exchanged.

Got the same two diff part numbers.

No I just assume that is correct. We will soon find out in a week when i try to install.
