2.3L ('83-'97) Industrial 2.3L work in a truck ok?

My credo
Well, that didn't work. Let's try something else!
I picked up this little lima 2.3 that came out of an industrial generator that purportedly had ~50 hours on it for $300. I was reasonably sure it wasn't different enough that it wouldn't work in a truck, so I took the chance. As far as I can tell, it was set up for gasoline, not LPG. It came with the intake and exhaust manifolds, an alternator, and the flywheel for the generator. I plan to use a standard Ranger exhaust manifold and a mustang d-port intake. I'll also use a rangers flywheel/clutch/pressure plate, of course. Is there anything that would prevent those plans from working out? Are there differences with the industrial engines that make them ill-suited for our trucks? I plan to use it in an 83. It looks like the mounts will bolt right up to me.

Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

This plate is on the side of the valve cover. Don't know if anyone can decode any of this stuff.

The generator intake with it's Zenith carb.

Generator exhaust manifold. The guy seemed to think it was good for mounting a turbo. I've not done boosted engines, so I couldn't say.

This is the mustang intake I plan to use. I might use it as is for now while I source a good Motorcraft 2100 to put on it.

I see a difference in the intake runners. One is round, one is d shaped.

both intakes look like they can be taken apart into pieces, where the carb mounts. maybe you can run the original generator one with the upper parts from the mustang intake and than use the 2100 carb?

That exhaust manifold has t3 turbo flange as its outlet.

I urge you to utilize it in all its glory.

It's my understanding that you can use the D-port intakes on the round port heads. Is that wrong? I hoped to use the D-port intake as it's the only one that supports a 2 bbl carb. The generator intake is cast for 1 bbl. This image gives an idea of how the ports overlap:

I don't pretend to understand what's best for power. I'm sure the port mismatch will cause some issues with flow, but don't know if it would outweigh being able to go 2 bbl.

But the engine itself should be ok for a truck, right? They didn't do anything weird with the internals or anything that would make it a poor choice?

The only thing I can think of is the camshaft is likely too low of a torque peak to make good horsepower...

as for the inktakes, if the bolt pattern is the same it's likely close enough, check that and the coolant port in the middle

That was more my concern. Since it was in a generator and had an actuator for throttle, I figure it was probably run at a static RPM. I guess I'll find out. I'm just gonna throw it in the truck and see what happens. I just wondered if anyone had used one before and if there were any issues I should look out for. Thanks for the input everyone!

Give us feedback please.

Yes, let us know how it works out. I kind of feel like maybe the lower torque peak may be better for driving
