I've just ordered a roll-up tool bag that I'm planning to stow underneath the drivers seat. I'm looking for a ideas for what tools I should include in the in-car tool kit. I have a '94 XLT and will be looking to fill out the kit to handle most roadside repairs as well as impromptu junkyard spelunking.

Current Ideas:
hub nut socket
spare greased hub bearings
8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 15mm (sockets and wrenches)
flex-head ratchet
vice-grips
need nose
hammer
multi-meter with t-pins

Big and small flat head screw drivers for prying.

"Consumables":
Tapes; duck, electrical, vinyl, etc.
Fuses
Lighting bulbs (spares of the types your truck uses)
Spare relays
Miscellaneous electrical: crimp terminals assortment, PLUS crimper and cutter tools to go with them; lengths of assorted wire.

You should also be carrying spare fluids- oil, coolant, ATF (you list "auto", and for the power steering).

You should be carrying a good flashlight, or trouble light in the truck, too.

You carry way too much Robbie... "pocket" set of metric wrenches, 1 multitool (like leatherman), jumper cables, quart of oil, empty gallon jug... I figure that is enough to get me to the nearest auto parts store or gas station if I am desperate enough to do serious surgery in the parking lot.

but I will second your vote for light of some sort, flashlight, headlamp, etc.

That's my "big bag".

Each of my trucks has a small basic set of tools, spare fluids, jumper cables and a flashlight.

Now a days I only grab the big bag when I think I might need it; it stayed in my daily driver before I retired.

I'm kind of confused.
I always thought my truck was a big tool box.

So I don't understand why anyone would ask what all tools they should keep in their truck.

ALL OF YOUR TOOLS SHOULD BE IN YOUR TRUCK.
It just a big tool box with a motor to help you move it around.

I'd need a WAY bigger truck... probably two of them to carry all my tools.

Tire plugs and plugging tools... they'll fit in the roll up bag.

Replace your fan belt... stuff the used one in your roll up.

@Uncle Gump you categorize what tools go in what truck.
So you have a truck for roofing
You have a truck for siding.
You have a truck for concrete work
You have a truck for welding.
So on and so forth.

I use my truck for towing my tool box.... A used 24' oilfield trailer tool crib. Also my ex school bus for storing bigger tools, and my small enclosed trailer for the smaller tools. Ohhh.... And my old ex snapon cube van for my construction tools.

I may have a tool problem.

Bailing wire for places zip ties won't work. Like holding up a broken exhaust.
