Iv got a 98 ford ranger and very randomly the alarm goes off. This is the 3rd time. the first one I paid $160 to have ford remove the electronics. the 2nd time I just opened up the door pannels and saw where ford had cut some wires on one side, so I did the same on the other and it went off. Now its going off for the 3rd time and im now out of ideas. The lights are flashing, the horns honking and the truck wont start. I had no idea It had an alarm when I bought the truck. So I never got a clicker. :icon_confused:

Got a receipt for the $160.........tell em to reconnect the wires or give you a refund.....then--get a clicker--or take the fuse out that powers the alarm...

Go get your money back. I woould be pissed to pay $160 for them to cut two wires and not even fix it

It was 6 months ago that I had ford deal with it. The fuse for the alarm also runs the fuel pump. So you cant just do that. After scratching my head for a while I did a bunch of research and found this about ranger alarm problems. I did this, un-locked and locked the door and it fixed my problem.

Hope this helps if anyone ever has this problem

"If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

the OEM FACTORY alarm (ie; horn honk, headlights),
then the FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE is a dark
green/purple wire |-|, Located in the drivers kick panel
area coming out of the door.

Once Located, splice into the wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in."

You don't need an alarm for a Ranger because they are close to being the least likely vehicle to steal.

Wow!!! I have never heard of this before. Very strange indeed. There has to be a way to disengage that darn thing. I will call one of my Ford Tech buddy’s this morning to see what he thinks about it. Get back at 'ya soon!!!

Ok, I got a call back from my buddy. He said if this is a factory alarm look for a valet switch under the dash area. You can turn it off there. He has had to do this a few times for his customers that have had issues like you having. He said this should take care of the problem. He said if you cannot find the switch he said to call your dealer who cut your wires and ask them where to find the switch. Hope this helps you out, Bro.

1 Renew perscription.
2 Open bottle.
3 Take pill.
Repeat when alarms are heard.:D

welp going back to this old thread because once again my trucks alarm randomly started going off. Im not sure what to do at this point. splicing into that wire worked for a year. Any suggestions?

I wont be able to work until I fix this. please someone help

The hood also has an alarmed switch on it.

If cutting the doors off did it the last two times try killing the hood switch this time.

Where is the hood switch? And do you need to just unplug it or do I need to ground it out? Thanks

Welp im back to this again... The last time I posted in the thread my dad had got in my truck played around with the key and it started and reset the alarm. It started going off at work yesterday and I havent been able to resolve it. Took it to ford and they told my my truck doesnt have an alarm and told me that the pats system has nothing to do with the truck not starting....He also told me that my chip key is bad.. the probelm is I dont have a chip key. I have always had a normal key. He told me thats not possible so I left. Would buying a remote for my automatic locks reset the alarm? What should I do? To get it to start I have to pull the fuse that is for PATS and the fuel pump, spray starting fluid in the intake and start it and stick the fuse back in. The theft light still flashes but it will run. Its driving me crazy. PS: I also tryed messing with the hood switch with no luck.
