I'm sure I got a short.

After I got out of the parole office this morning I made this video.

The tach started screwing up almost immediately. I suspect a loose connection somewhere. Or possibly a wire broke inside the insulation that makes intermittent connections. Can you get someone to watch the dash while you move the wiring harnesses?

Can anyone tell me if the link in my last post in this thread is working or not.
I clicked it myself and I'm getting the video but not the sound.

So I've looked in my EVTM and made some notes as well.
I took some pictures as well to help everyone understand.

Picture 1 is the PCM in the book which I believe is also the EEC.
IMG_20250313_132248738.jpg

The next picture is also the PCM and we are following wire 11 along its path
IMG_20250313_132416490.jpg

The next picture we are still following wire 11 along its path. We can see that wire is spliced into 3 other wires.
IMG_20250313_133306150.jpg

The next picture shows where 1 of the connectors ( C1005 ) are that wire number 11 goes to.
IMG_20250313_133346821.jpg

The next picture also shows where another connector ( C105 ) are that wire number 11 goes to.
IMG_20250313_133407749.jpg

The next picture tells us information on how to find splice ( S118 ).

So I used the information that @Brain75 gave me.
He told that I could back track the wire for the ignition diagnostic monitor from the PCM and that it was pin 4.
So I looked and like always @Brain75 gave me good advice I could definitely backtrack it from that point.
Which is why I have all these pictures of all these pages. Because wire number 11 is the wire I'm back tracking.
It goes to pin number 4 of the PCM.

So I figured out one thing I was already sure of
.
Wire 11 eventually leads to the ignition control module.
Before any of this happened I already knew that my connector that plugs into the ignition control module has a broken clip on it.

So after I made my little video this morning I disconnected the clip plugging into the ignition control module.
And then unscrew the ignition control module from my core support plug the clip back into it and started my truck.
Truck was running like normal tachometer was working I thought I was okay until I shut the hood.
Engine started running slower not as well as it usually does.
I get back in the truck cab and the tachometer is back down around zero.

So I got out open the hood look to make sure my connection was still connected onto the ignition control module and it was.
What's around to see if I seen anything out of the ordinary couldn't see nothing.
Put my hand in the window of the truck started the truck, trucks sounded normal tachometer was back to normal.

So I reach it under the hood and move the wiring harness clip and the ignition control module around a little bit truck died.

Looked at my book some more figured out where the tachometer service connector is in the book left under my hood and found it.
Started the truck once again running normal. I moved the tachometer service connector around. It did not affect anything.

So I once again touch the connector and the ignition control module with them around a little bit truck died again.

At this point I'm thinking my wire 11 has a short somewhere around the ignition control module but not right at the ignition control module.

I took the ignition control module back off use some QD electronic cleaner on the ignition control module and the connector both. I gave them 10 minutes to dry. I hooked them back up.
Put a couple of zip ties around it. So I know it wouldn't come apart. Started the truck once again starting okay running okay.

Decided I'd take it for a little drive, to see if I fixed the problem. I close the hood this time everything stayed running properly. I got halfway around the block and it started acting up again.

I now think I for sure need some dialectic Grease.

I really don't want to have to un-tape my wiring harness to try and find the splice. That would really suck and be a lot of tedious work

Thank you @alwaysFlOoReD for at least letting me know that you could watch the video in the link while I was still writing this.

And to answer if I have anyone to watch the tech while I jiggle wires.

I have a question to you does she count?

Look at what I just found in my wiring harness.
IMG_20250313_173431670.jpg

See it close to the bottom of the picture.

Okay uncovered it some more by taking some more tape off.

This first picture is the wire I'm chasing that has one finger touching it.

The next picture is I believe the ground to the ignition control module.
And then I'm wondering if inside that black and yellow cover might be a feasible link or something.
I can definitely feel something in there.
Might just be the joint were those wires are hooked together.
Then it goes to bare wires coming out the other end of it.

IS this normal?
I don't think bare wires would be normal at all.

Bare wires are not normal (braided ground straps are an exception). It's hard to tell what that bare wire is connected to, but the lower part of it that's visible in the pic looks especially bad (the strands separation).

I don't think that sleeve is original; my guess is that it's an old wiring "repair". Try tracing where the bare wire starts and stops, and get that mess cleaned up. From your description of what it did when you worked on it, it sounds like a failed / failing connection (an "open circuit" versus a "short circuit").

And finally . . .

SIR, PUT THAT HAMMER DOWN, and step away from truck!

Please don't hit your truck; it's not really its fault.

Any fusible link I'm aware of will be on a positive feed, located very near the battery.

If there is more than one wire entering either end of the black/yellow insulation, then it is merely a splice.

It looks like they put hot glue in the black and yellow thing where the wires are.

IMG_20250313_182212666.jpg
I can see it sticking out of each end.

I think maybe it was an attempt of waterproof it.

Good heat shrink tubing is lined with hot glue, and when heated to shrink the glue melts and comes out the ends, just like you're looking at.

I can't rule that that's an original splice; if so, it'll be shown in the EVTM.

But that bare wire is definitely no good. In your first pic in that last post, that dark spot just off your fingertip looks like a wire that's about to break; if it's as bad as it looks, that may well be where an intermittent open circuit is occurring, and causing your issue.

Yes, in the first pic to the right of your pinky finger, there is a pink wire that looks burnt. It may have been red but faded to pink... Its the smaller of the 3 red wires.

@RobbieD Your talking about the darker spot on the bare wire right?

If you are, I think what your seeing in the picture is a shadow on the wire.
I'm quickly losing the sunlight.
IMG_20250313_184243050.jpg

From the ignition control module connector it comes out one black wire then goes into that yellow and black tube which we're believing is shrink tubing.
Then comes out it appears to be two separate bare wires.

Okay I see what you guys are talking about.
That's a faded red wire.
The power wire for the ignition control module.
It has dirt on it however it looks like it has been kinked or something.
IMG_20250313_185411063.jpg

As you can see in the last picture I posted I put some black tape back around the wires.
Because I'm running out of daylight.
And I don't want the wiring harness to be a mess. I still have to drive the truck home.
Even with it acting bad.

Not that end. I cropped your pic and circled in yellow the wire I'm worried about. You can look closer later...
