I was driving with my tailgate down on the way home from work today:3gears:(keep it down whenever beds empty) and I got pulled over. The cop told me that my license plate isnt visible enough with the gate down and that tailgates are covered by the same 'new' law that says license plate covers can't cover the "ARIZONA" at the top of your license plate. He let me off with a warning but I cant help but be pissed! Can you believe that?:icon_surprised:

it was on mythbusters, if u leave the gate up u will get better milage

In some states, it is actually illegal to just have the tailgate down while driving. And not because it covers up the plate or makes it harder to see. Thats why some people remove them completely and get a tailgate net to replace it.

I leave mine up. I use it too much just to leave it at home.

Didn't someone from Arizona just post something about getting pulled over because his ball hitch on the bumper was blocking the plate? That's all getting a little bit silly.

You Know the other day I was driving home from work and I seen a truck with the tailgate down and it gave me the Idea. If I keep my gate down the photo radar wont be able to see it. I'm totally sure this is why the dumbass in our state gov. made this law about the plate frame.
But then I came up with the other Idea of placing a Mirrior down the center of the plate. This way from behind the plate looks regular but if you look at it from the side like the radar camera would it would reflect the half of plate you are on.
Sorry I kinda of have a long drive from work and a over active Imagination.

What if I have a ladder hanging out the back and the tailgate happens to be down. guess I am out of luck.

In illinois you can't have a hitch with a reciever on it "when not in use"

The "when not in use" goes the same on the tailgates.

the mesh tailgates yield the worst fuel economy of all combo's (even worse than tailgate down)

Thats a new one to me. Maybe that should also be issued in Oklahoma as well. Too many truck drivers leave the hitch on and could cause more serious rear-end collision problems. Not too mention that I have to dodge them every time I gotta work with one attached. Leg + hitch = motoral pain.

Same here in NC. If you are using your truck and the tailgate is down you better have something in the bed with the tailgate down on it. If not, you can get in trouble.

Laws vary from state to state. I believe in ND if the tailgate or load extends more than 6" past the bumper you need to attach a flag. Don't really see anybody drive with the tailgate down unless they are moving something. Its just asking to have road debris damage your tailgate to me.

What if you buy a truck from out of state with the hitch rusted into the receiver? I've seen some up here that you could NOT get out.

What if isn't John, and i'm not Law.......... :icon_rofl:
I would not buy a truck that was that rusted, or just make it hot with a torch/ grind and replace.

I drove to Illinois with my dually (6in drop hitch, and limo tent.... to college)
I never got in any trouble, in a po-dunk town like Shawneetown-Ridgeway-Harrisburg-Carmi....... I was pretty good to go if I layed off the smoke/tires/ and speed :annoyed:
