So I have a 97 ranger 4.0L V6 and I want to put in a killswitch that kills the spark only. My reasoning for this is that I want to hear if my truck is cranking if its being stolen(spooky people wander my neighborhood). I just want to know how to run a hidden switch and where to hook it up.:icon_confused:
Ignition system is D.I.S. in case you were wondering.
Thanks guys!

The Ford V6 coil Pack has 4 wires connected to it,
one is 12volts that comes on with the key
the other 3 are Grounds controlled by the computer

You would use an inline fuse and a switch rated above the fuse rating.

You may want to put an automatic relay on that type of setup, when your turn off the key/engine the relay that passes power to the coil OPENS.
When you turn the key back on the relay stays OPEN so no power to coil.
This is an automatic cutoff, you don't have to remember to turn off a switch, and you will forget, for sure, lol, and that's the night it will be stolen.

To CLOSE the relay you would use a second relay which could be activated, with key ON, by a hidden switch or by turning on and off parking lights or left turn signal or .......any full time or momentary 12v signal would send constant 12v to Coil relay so coil would have power again until key is turned off.

Second drawing here has that wiring, "Momentary to Constant Output":

This page has the pin numbering for automotive relays:

30amp relay with connector is about $8

There is also an inertia switch in the passenger side kick panel, the fuel pump power passes thru this switch, since it is inside the passenger compartment already it would be easy to put a switch or relays on this.

I actually wouldnt mind turning the switch on and off every time. I dunno it interests me to have full control on who tries to drive my truck.(including wife haha) and do i have to add relays or can i just run it direct with an in line fuse?

Just cut the wire and insert the switch add a fuse at the switch, the From Power side of switch.

12v from power box at coil------------------------in line fuse---switch------------------------Coil

10amp fuse and switch 12gauge wire

Just find the coil's power wire and cut it. Run both ends to the switch and plug it in on either side of the switch. All the switch does of course is just cut the power to the coil and boom, no way anyone can steal the rig.

another thing you can cut the power to is the fuel pump via another switch so that way even if they find the first switch theyll have to search for the second. Same procedure as the coil's.

id follow Ron's suggestion he's smarter than i am! But if it was me since you're in there i would get a switch on the pump as well.
