So heres my ideas... been thinkin bout it for a while and have a buddy with a 88 ext cab w 2 4 inch stacks... idl the 4 inchers particularly. My idea is this - Cut the exhaust off between the cat and the stock muffler, removing all the piping and muffler from the cat back. Run a new pipe same as stock diameter to a hole about center or right center of the front of the bed. Then put a Cherry Bomb extreme dual outlet muffler right below the bed. Then put 90 angled bends onto each outlet and run the pipes to their respected stacks. Now as the stacks go, I was thinking of running stock sized pipe within a 3in stack with a curve off the top to keep the water out. I want to then take diamond plating and block off the 4-6 inches of the bed that has the exhaust system and go parallel to the bed front wall and then bend it flat to the front wall of the bed and weld it all to the bed. Thus having a barrier to block the heat from the bed contents from both the sleeved stacks and also from the bed addition. I figure since the pipes comming through the bed will be low lying, i can make the bed addition have a tool box type top to utilize some of that space being wasted... Ne1 have any suggestions. I just dont like the look of the y pipe visible in te bed, dont want the heat problem and also want to be able to keep the toolbox option... I also wonder if adding a honeycomb like spacer btween the inner pipe and the cosmetic sleeve would help dissipate heat like the heat dissipators on the ECM in every car.

should look sumn likethis...

Stacks would be turned straight back, not as big, diamond plate taller with a flipp open top to a shallow tool bin.

Anyone agree with this settup? I figure im gonna lose like 8-10 inches mybe in my bed, tho i dont use it all anyways so why not right? always loved the looks of stacks.

Interesting approach. I LIKE IT. I am going to be running my exhaust through the lower framework of the bed on the "Mudhound", as I am building a"Truggy" type bed, and I got the idea for the exhaust from the Cat dumptrucks out in the local rock quarry. Ought to give the local "boyscouts" something to wring their hands over- "Oh, dear. The exhaust of your truck IS in compliance with KRS 189 for sound attenuation, but I can't find anything that says the routing is "acceptable" or not. Oh, dear." And, yeah, the exhaust will be dumping down just before the end of the bed, to keep it from getting smashed closed by a rock or stump, or some jackweed that rearends me.

sounds good to me, the only hard part of doing it is cutting up a good bed lol

Don't forget you'll need to include a flex joint in the system before you turn it up to go through the bed. It's pretty easy to build your own set up, I did my single stack from the turbo back including hangers and the flex joint (no muffler) for about $150.

HAHA yea thats gonna be the hard part... And i havent decided if i wanna bolt the Diamond plate on or weld it.. figure if i bolt it then i can remove it to access the piping if theres ne problems..
