This may belong better in lighting, or brakes, or both, or a few other places, but yeah, too many places it could go....

So....... people around here don't seem to get that I only have 2 brake lights, takes them forever to realize that I'm slowing down.

I've been thinking about trying to fit a high-mount light to my truck. What I want to know is, will the lens from a 96-ish truck work? They look to be about the same size/shape, I'm more worried about the gasket sealing and the screws lining up right.

Ideas guys?

i think those are a bit larger than the cargo light your truck has there(i assue ur talking about the roof cargo light some 1st gens had)
but drilling new holes and sealing it really good with silicone will do.

u could get some LED bars for under the tailgate too or to mount it inside the cab, sticked to the rear window, lighting outside of course haha

They may be bigger. I'm gonna take some measurements, but I just wanted to see if anyone knew.

As for aftermarket methods, I'm trying to keep it looking factory.

Most of the time the factory stock look ain't good enough!!! Just add something that people can see and don't worry about the stock look. I see a lot of F-150's here that have the led strip across the bottom of the bed and that thing really glows during the day and at night that led strip can be seen real good and when the brakes are applied.....that strip really glows!!! I have thought about adding one to my Ranger. I added the led third brake light and it really glows at day and even better at night. I might look into the led setup for my brake lights so they will be brighter and safer (at least I hope so). Some people just like to tail gate no matter what speed you are going.......because they are idiots!!!!!!

making a 93+ one fit would be the way to go then. the cab hole it needs is fairly small so i think u wont need to make it bigger, just drilling new holes. ive taken mine out several times and the gasket still works fine so a bit of silicone will do on yours in case it doesnt seal completly

96 is the first year that will really have what I want. 3rd brake light rules are passenger cars 87 and up, pickups and cargo vans 96 and up.

Musta been an option then. I have a buddy with a 95 that only has the cargo light like my truck.

Full OBDII, but no high-mount.

thats really weird. my momos 93 had the stop with cargo light, so my cousins 94, even my grandmas b300 had the stop light-that one had no cargo since it was a base model.

maybe his was replaced. if thats the thing, then yours works on his truck(it fits) and his fits yours LOL

I had an 87 ranger with just the cargo light and I never thought it was an issue not having 3 brake lights. 3 seems kind of excessive to me. If people behind you can't slow down because you only have 2 brake lights, maybe they don't have the capacity to drive in the first place.

I don't like the led strips... Reason being... When the little led bulbs start going out and you have missing red lights. It just looks stupid. Now about the high mount I have no clue. But I do know that you could mount one inside the glass from like a minivan or whatever has an inside high brake light. I'm thinking about looking into this for my b2. Idk if you'd want something inside on a ranger tho

Yeah my 93 has the high mount brake and cargo lights. Looks exactly like the one on the 98. Since my hoop block mine I'm looking at a Recon "Fore & Ice" LED strip. Has running, brake and signals in red and even a white reverse. Really cool bar.

This guys vid shows it off really good, it also has running lights too which he doesn't turn on.

I love that strip.. It's so awesome. And the white backup puts off enough light that it helps to see while backing up at night

I'm almost considering dovetailing my bed and just running one of those. Instead of pulling the middle of the bed in I'd shave my tails.
