Ice can sneak up on you for sure. I was pulling a load of lumber last week. Gross weight ~100,000#. Driving slow because of the snow, brought a 4 lane highway down to less than 2 lanes so I had to buck snow just to have a lane to be in. Cross wind hit me and slid the whole truck sideways towards the ditch. Not a lot you can do in that situation other than try to drop some speed and hope to heck that the tires bite before the ditch. Would have helped out a lot if the road crews had actually gotten out and cleared the highways more than once in a 24+ hour snow storm.
Lots of people go in the ditch this time of year. They seem to not realize that last year snow and ice was slippery. Maybe this year it will be different. LOL
Well if you stoped bitching about the roads, and chipped in the taxes to pay for snow removal, then there would be the crews to get the roads done.
I work snow crew, i run 260k x 4 passes plus turns off's and ramps. at a top speed of 40 k do the math.
