sup fellas...

so my lil ranger 2.9 is running a bit rough at idle. it idles at about 1500 rpm (i thought it should be set anywhere from 750 rpm?)

as it warms up, it kinda sounds like its struggling for air and it drops to just above the 1000 rpm level. I'm no genious, but sounds like the IACV to me.

any thoughts?

and the filter has been changed

do you have a check engine light on? a bad temp sensor can cause high idle as well as an intake leak, and a bad 02 can feed faulty info to the computer and cause it to do weird things to the idle when its running with no load, but an IACV could also do that, only at idle though. have you tried cleaning the intake and throttle plate with any kind of throttle body cleaner or similar product yet? you can also remove the IACV and clean it out to an extent, mainly just removing any carbon thats built up on the end of the pintle.

I see.... well I replaced the temp switch and temp sensor. pcv valve and new air filter. the 02 sensors are fine (i cleaned them with some carb cleaner not too long ago). EGR seems to be fine, pressure regulator is doing its job and I have no check engine light on.

So, for me to clean the throttle plate and IACV would just take carb cleaner? would Seafoam do the trick?

IAC valve usually causes a surging idle when bad. Could be TPS, fuel regulator, or a vacuum leak. Probably not the regulator though unless its dieing every now and then.

Did you clean the IAT. As your cleaning the TB, IAT and IAC disconnect the battery to reset the computer then run it for about 20 minutes and see what it does. It kinna sounds like a vacuum leak also maybe put a new gasket on the TB you can clean it alot better if you pull it off.
