I don't know anything about this subject. I read the tech stuff. I have a 2wd. I want it to be better in the snow. What am I looking to do? Add a locker? Change to a LS. All feedback is greatly appreciated

Thanks for the feedback. What does each one entail. Do you keep the rearend housing and add it in or do you remove the whole rearend. About what does it cost

And I don't offroad. I just want what would work best in the SNOW and ICE

lockers go for $400-500 (LockRight about $300). l/s should be about half that, $200 range. i'd have it put in because depending on which one you get, it could be the ring and pinion have to come out and then have to be re-installed. it will go into your case for sure.

Is the cost of the Locker parts and Labor. Can I do any of these options myself? What would the cost be? Thx

for $500 you could go buy a bronco 2 with 4wd and that would do great in the snow

I agree. I was hoping there was an option I could do myself for $100

nothing much u can do for that cash
u have to add the labor on any locker or L/S u buy
thats a dificult job so it cant be done at home if u are not an experienced mechanic and have the propper tools

the cheap bronco for snow seems like a good idea

i think there is a how to on the tech library about installing a locker

The easiest way would be a replacement rear with l/s bolting in the whole thing is a lot less technical. Before you do that check the rear end thats in it to make sure its not a l/s.Look at the tag on the back of the rear end and you will see a number like 355 or like 3l55.The one with the l in it is a limited slip.Good in snow is also about tires.

What tools do you need ti install a locker
A lunch-box locker only requires basic tools. A LS or other full carrier replacement diff requires a couple "special" tools and some knowledge about setting up gears.

I'd get a lunchbox locker. If you can follow simple directions for a couple of hours and have a good socket set, you can do it.

could you suggest a brand or model for the "lunchbox locker" and how much much is the part. is the locker locked all the time or do you manually lock it when you want the traction?:icon_confused:...thanks
