Last nite, coming home from the bar, about halfway home she started chugging and making some sort of a funny noise, i couldnt tell where the noise was coming from but i knew she was missing hard. I drove about another 2 or 3 miles and she just lost all power and died. Right on the side of the road.

I cranked her over and cranked her over and just couldnt get her to fire.

I called my nephew and we towed it home.

The noise was a loud clanking noise, not really like a rod, but it sounded like it was coming from underneath.

I guess after 300, (prolly almost 400,000 miles) you can only ask so much of a ranger. She had been gettin weaker for a while now. But its like an old dog, you know its going to happen but you never think the day will come.

Ill go out later today or this week and see if cant ressesate her one more time, but i really think this is the end :dunno:

Wish me luck.

Dustin

Well Rusty had a good run... it's been a hell of a truck for you.

I thought you rebuilt Rusty's engine a while back.

....and the real sad thing is i dont know if my wife will let me spend the money to get her running again, if it is infact something serious.

LET you????

If my wife tried to keep me from getting my ranger running I would DIVORCE her!!!!!

Nobody runs my life.

Don't get me wrong I have respect for my wife and love her dearly BUT I definitely wear the pants in the family.

My condolences to your truck and also to Kansas 4x4s wife.

ohh no not rusty... maybe it'll come back... hey at least ya'll have wives and ain't a single dad...:bawling:

Maybe wishful thinking....

I went out and did a few tests...

Compression seems to be decent still, 135-140psi smooth over all 6.

Heres the kicker...

Fuel pressure is at 34 psi. Spec is 40 correct? Would 6psi make enough of a difference to keep it from running?

Motor still turns freely by hand, and cranks over strong. The noise i couldnt figure out, and is what has me worried.

If i can revive this thing im going to. No sense in giving up now :P

Its sparking.

I was talking to a buddy of my nephews and he said he had a 92 ranger do something similar it started missing and then died, but he said he heard a similar noise to what i described and it actually broke a motor mount cause it missed so hard.....is this BS (it came from a 20 yr old) or do you think there may be some truth to it?

Dustin

Ok so you have spark, you have compression that is ok, and fuel pressure. Now do you have a way to check injector pulse so we can cover the basics? I don't think a broken motor mount will cause it to lose all power and shut off no. But a motor mount can break if old enough from a bad enough missfire have seen odder things happen.

My condolences to your truck and also to Kansas 4x4s wife.
I love that sense of humor. :D

Rusty, did you check the timing? Spark is good but it has to spark at the right time.
