I set it on fire

You need to pin out the eec.

That's step 1.

Can we put some perspective on this for me....what would I need for an engine swap (dont list the obvious...cherry picker, tools, etc.)?
Is there anything from my truck that I can keep?

This will be a buy as I go process, because the hope is to get the 2.9 engine going.

Recommendations on what engine (is there a specific year range I am looking for) to look at, and I want to keep it manual if that makes a difference on the type of engine. Simplicity is favorable, but like I said...this will be buying stuff over the next year before I even install it.

Thank you for the info.

P.S. I have narrowed my ignition problem to electrical, or the fuel injectors themselves. When the fire happened it burned the pigtails to the injectors. I have replaced the pigtails, but may have the timing off on them. I called in a coworker that deals with electrical to assist in that venture. Also put in a new fuel pressure regulator because I bought it...so why not, right?

Look for a donor vehicle. Usually can get one ( not running, look for blown head gaskets or wrecks) for a few hundred $$$. Then swap all electrological thingies.

Update 2: After a very tiring and trying few weeks (started a job as a tire tech at a truck stop) I finally went back to work on the truck again, but with a fresh set of eyes. Got a buddy of mine from school to check it out. I overlooked the distributor cap and wire placement. The diagram that I printed out had the spark plug wire order just 1-6 in a circle...i didnt second guess it...so thats what I did. After about 2 minutes we had it in correct order and a jump (parasitic draw coming from the electric fan being hard wired to the battery...i want to shoot whoever did that)...it started...found a few oil leaks, and have to extract a bolt from the thermostat housing (snapped when I was putting it back together the first time...and I forgot that was happened...and it's flush with the intake manifold. Going for round 3 on gaskets...and hopefully by Friday it'll be up, running, and ready for tires. Now I can take my time, find the right motor, motor mounts, learn how to weld, and acquire the correct tools for an engine swap. I am always looking for ideas on a motors...will post pictures and updates as I get it going.
