Well, the great state of Georgia requires motorcycle riders to wear a damn helmet. That is the only thing I miss about living in Florida. I still had my right to chose for myself. Oh well, this is where we live for the moment so if I want to ride I have to comply. I am getting my bike back on the road and I need some help locating a helmet I can half way tolerate. I know more about motocross style helmets than anything. So I am starting from scratch with street bike stuff. I would like an open face helmet that does not look totally retarded. I saw one on a Hot Rod TV show a while back that I liked but I cannot remember what it was called. Are there any out there that can be open and closed faced? I am thinking for the winter time I would like a closed face that can be removed when it warms up. Shoot me some links and shower me with your knowledge. I need this figured out quick, fast, and in a hurry.

I don't know how anyone can be so STUPID as to not wear a helmet......

But there are tons of websites that you can shop at...

I would never even ride around the block without a helmet, and I would never wear an open faced helmet, but I like my brain inside my skull and my teeth where they are.

I like this one:

Last fall, I bought a full face, flip top helmet off ebay. The front of the helmet flips up and makes it easier to go off and on. I liked it and it was only $35 to my door. My regular helmet is a 3/4 helmet and it worked great 10 days ago when I totaled my bike. I was blinded by the sun off my mirrors or chrome and when I could see again, there was a van stopped right in front of me. I laid it down and the bike slid under the van and I rolled into the bike. My helmet has chips and scratches all the way around it and the point that the visor attaches to the helmet is broken. You may not like helmets, but I can tell you that at 30mph, if I wasn't wearing my helmet, I would have been in the hospital or morgue. Instead, I walked away with bruises. I understand that you want the opportunity to choose, but I wouldn't make the helmet an option.

I find half-helmets make it harder to ride. Personally, I would much rather not wear one, but I consider them a necessary evil, and I find that a full-face is way more comfortable. Less noise, no bugs in the eye, no windburn, and you keep your jaw in an accident. They're not that expensive either. Mine cost me $280 a year ago when it was still a new model. It's so much better than the $100 cheapo I was using that I couldn't believe it. Anyways: My Baby

Amen. I layed over an 800 pound bike at about 60, and walked away with a bruise and a scrape because I was wearing gear. And it wasn't even very expensive gear. It also had the benefit of adding a ton of character to my jacket.

I stand by ICON's product. Went down at 40 mph and thrashed my lid. I would not be here if I was not wearing a helmet.

The particular style helmet you are looking for is called modular.

Check out: www.motorcycle-superstore.com for some killer deals. Like I said before, I stand by ICON's products.

I have laid my bike down twice with out a helmet, so I know what you all are saying. I just do not like being told what is best for me.

I think I mis-spoke. I ride a criuser, not a crotch rocket. I used the term street bike because I am use to the ATV thing. So to me anything I ride on the hard road is a street bike.

Hee's a thought: go down to your local motorcycle shop and start looking & trying skid lids on.

For the record: I live in NH where helmet are NOT required, but if I were ridfing, I would DEFINITALLY have one.

That is what I plan to do. I just wanted to laern a bit more about that and narrow my search a bit first.

Okay. Go with a full-face or a "convertable" type helmet.

When shopping look for a Snell, DOT or a European standard.

I just looked them up. I feel stupid, I always thought it was a brand name.
